[rebel-builders] Crawford rivet orders

Hello Duane,

One suggestion is to ask for the 1691 vs 1661 series if they are out of 1661
series. The 1661 series, so I understand, are manufactured in either the UK
or Brazil, whereas the 1691 are manufactured (if I remember correctly) in
the U.S.. Some folks said they didn't like the quality of the 1691, but, in
theory, they ought to be the same.

I just received 1,000 of the 1682-0412 this week, so I know they do have
them in stock. The 1682 series is a new # series that apparently replaces
the 1604 series (per an email I received from Crawford a few weeks ago). I
know that they just in the last week received a new shipment of this #
series from their source, so they should, one would hope, still have stock
on hand.

I guess I got lucky and didn't know it when I ordered the 1661-0414, as I
got a 1,000 three weeks ago.

When I talked to Jed there (800-666-4212 x. 103) he told me my order was
"really small" to them, but, hey, it's still an order.

I checked prices at Hansen rivet supply; they were friendly and responsive,
but their prices were about twice as high as Crawford (if I remember
correctly).

Ted,

I have recently started working on my Rebel again after about a six year
break for other priorities. I am working on the forward fuselage, and I
need some more rivets, especially those with longer grip lengths. I called
Crawford this morning and was told the 1661-0414 rivets were out of stock,
had an 18 week lead time, and came in cartons of 8000. When I asked about
the countersunk ones, 1604-0414, he said "They're even harder to get. (I
couldn't find your 1682-0412 anywhere on their website.) How did you pry
the rivets on this list out of them so easily, and do you have any
suggestions for where to look next.

Thanks for the suggestions, Ted. I'll probably try Hansen, as availability is
more important than price right now.

...here we go again guys...forget what I said. Buy'm where ever the ... you
like..... Not out to "Burn" anyone and this isn't grade school !

I can email Nancy today for rivets and they'd be out before dark tomorrow!
Maybe she just likes me...but whining/down talk helps you get nowhere in a
suppliers "books". If that's the tact you take then it may be 9 months for
you next time.....

[rebel-builders] Crawford rivet orders

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:26 am
by Jean Poirier
Hello

Last year I have been out of stock with stainless rivets. I gave a call to
Murphy and they give the industry reference number so I bought them locally.
For Avex it is may be more complicated but I called the local salesman of
Avex and he gave me 2 o 3 distributors they have in my area. Murphy have
some problems sometimes ... but they are not so bad! They have answers to
my questions, and the few times I asked parts, they gave me a service
quality in the average of the +/- 150 suppliers I have in my business. They
are there to make money and it is a good thing. We all know aircraft kits
manufacturer who forget it and there is no more service at their phone
number.... I will spent between $50000.00 and $80000.00 on a airplane...
If I can have rivets locally and cheaper... may be. But if I have only a
little doubt of quality or availability, I will be willing to spend more
money and "help" Murphy stay in business. Rebuild a Chevy and go to your
local GM dealer to buy bolts.. how will be the price?
