Live 60 miles from Dillsburg, the bad thing now is he or I should say the
sons are buying foreign steel some is not of the same quality he had in
previous trips there. I bought the tubing there to fabricate the nose gear
on the Moose had a hard time getting it powder coated there is a substance
keeps bleeding through the coating finally got it to take as it is supposed
to do. Just my experience last spring with them. Dale SR-033

Wayne, when I built my last tube and fab aircraft, believe it or not,
Leavens was the best price. I have bought the odd piece from them over the
last couple of years and think there definately out to lunch on their
prices. I believe I have Dillsberg's info somewheres in the house. I am a
little far away from ordering anything just yet. Have two sets of floats to
build when and if I ever get into my new house this December and then I have
to set up a shop to boot! Forget that I have to paint GMSG this spring too.

There's only one place to buy 4130 tube... without taking your bank
manager.
Dillsberg Aeroplane Works..from their chicken barns full of tube. If you
need the phone number I'll dig out their leaflet.

Thanks Drew
I saw this last week when I was surfing the web. The only thing that
bothers me after researching the Bearhawk several years ago is the
extravagant landing gear and aileron/flap hinges but I understand that
someone is making some of the parts. Do u think that the raw tubing for
the
Patrol would be about or more than 3,500.US? I have not priced 4130
tubing
for quite some time but is most likely up in price. Reviews on the
plane
are very inpressive. Have a soft spot for the Maule look-a-like too!

Thanks for the update Dale. Issue is everyone (suppliers) buys from them as
their father would "buy out" the whole mill run for stock.

Dale, isn't that just a preservative that they put on that's really hard to
remove? I remember washing the tubing with varsol for ever to get it clean.
You know its clean when it rusts in several hours after touching it. If they
put it on when the metal is still hot, it almost comes out like a blueing?.

As Steve also states...that is only the processing/rust proofing oil. It is
a nightmare to get it all off for paint etc. Guess the processors figure
more is better than less.

I am not an expert on steel and it's particles , the powder coating company
used some kind of acid on it the first time as they do with all there steel
prep,, didn't work, then they used toluline (excuse my spelling ) the
second time after two applications they used that it worked for the most
part if I don't show you where it is you won't see it now (this was only on
the tubing from Dillsburg the tubing from Airspruce was fine ).. Just as a
comparison Wayne,, Airspruce has actually been cheaper when shipping from
Georgia for me then from Dillsburg here in PA the tubing I ordered today
from Airspruce to make the steering links for the nose gear was $2.99 a ft
as $3.06 a ft. from Dillsburg and they will only cut 4 ft. pieces now (not a
big deal ) but the one size I only needed a foot so I would have had waste
also... I guess it's a sign of the changing times... Dale

Thanks again Dale, Guess the son's are getting greedy. An unfortunate
reality when family businesses move on to those that didn't build them up
from the ground. Eaton's comes to mind for me.... ;O)
