Hi Mike
I think it's suggesting a non resetable current limiter (as below with

hi all
so on my wiring diagram and on aeroelectric examples a fuse or circuit
breaker is shown between alternator b lead and the starter contactor,
this connection is with say 8 or 6 awg cable
how is the fuse or in my case a circuit breaker connected to this big wire,
the attach screws on the cb are way to small fit the terminal size on a 6 or
8 awg wire ?? perhaps a patch piece of metal ??
thanks

Hi Mike
I think the logic is a major current drain on your alternator that does not
die down after a short period of time indicates a possible BUS fault, and
that is one you would not want to reset a CB for anyway so a slow blow fuse
will not be a problem - when it blows you'll need to be landing soon anyway
!
Alt output protection is best done with removing the field (such as by a
crow bar overvoltage protection cct and a smaller (5A?) CB)

Actually the intent is to protect the b+ wire from excessive current
coming out of the battery in the event of a wiring short or short within
the alternator. An alternator is incapable of outputting much more than
its rated current so it can't overheat the wire. The battery can source
up to about 1000 amps!
Mike I used a 50 amp maxi fuse and holder from Blue Sea Marine. They
will also take a 60 amp fuse which might be better. IIRCC it has 3/16"
bolts that will fit on the connectors whatever wire you are using.
Connectors can be had from a marina or Digi-key. I believe Spruce and
Steinair and BandC also stock most sizes. THey can be crimped but I
soldered them as described on the aeroelectric site. The ANL current
limiter is just a big slow acting fuse.
