Flap Settings ?

Dear Fellow "Rebellers" ;

G'day from below !

My wife and I have been fortunate enough to be given a "lend" of a vacant factory nearby in
which to assemble our Rebel so we can fit the struts (now done), connect the flaperon controls
(which is where we are up to), make the wing root and strut fairings.

Our problem is :....we cannot find what angles to set the various stages of flap notches at.
I have asked a Rebel builder here (in Australia), but he says that he doesn't know what the
angles are supposed to be either.

Can anyone out there please advise what angle / degree of flap is recommended for :

1) The "Reflexed" position ( I get about 6 degrees with the setup I have now).
2) First stage of flap
3) Second stage of flap
4) Third stage of flap
I might add here that I seem to get about 6 degrees of UP (with no aileron input)...and
26 degrees of down ( with no aileron input )

With the flaperons in the 26 degree down position , and the aileron input at FULL , the lower
side gets to the "required" 40 degree angle of droop.... but it LOOKS like W...A....Y too
much deflection down to me... I'm thinking how much drag it must create !!!
(or am I just being to conservative here ?!?).

Any advice will be gratefully received !

Thanks

Flap Settings ?

Hi!

Must be another of those "I thought it was detailed in the manual ...."
things ! :-(

My recollection is that the flap increments are all supposed to be
6 degrees - 6 of up, 6, 12, & 18 of down. We add an extra 'up', for a
max. of 12 degrees 'up' for Rebels with more than 115 hp. This seems to
give an extra 2 or 3 mph....

We get someone to push up on the flapperons to simulate air loads
when adjusting for neutral - this compensates for the slop in the cable.

Having exact angles is really not very critical - a few degrees either
way likely won't be noticeable, in case you don't have very accurate
indicators. We've re-adjusted ours "by eyeball" on occasion.

Hope this helps ... Sounds like you'll be flying soon - GREAT !!!

....bobp
