[rebel-builders] tail ontario mods.....

Hi Jean

1. It would seem that the important thing is to use a fus-30 doubler
that comes far enough forward to pick up the bolt at the front of the
tailspring. And picking up at least a few rivets along the top of fus-30
just in front of the tailpost is a good idea. Some suggest also picking
up a few of the rivets from the Fus-89 triangular side doubler pieces
although I did not do that. It might be worth making it large enough to
cover the cutout holes for the elevator pushrods so you don't have to
make separate doublers for those holes. It becomes more difficult to
install as you make it larger though so I made separate doublers for the
elevator pushrods and kept the fus-30 doubler behind those cutouts. It
is a good idea to make the fairings for the pushrods (if you use
fairings) before you drill the rivet holes in that area.

2. From memory, I think the horizontal doubler to the tailpost (a
Factory bulletin) is 0.032 thick.

3. I have never heard of, or seen a doubler on the top fuselage skin
forward of the fin. Maybe they were thinking of the doubler mentioned
in 2 above.

Hello

I am finishing the floor in the fuselage (tail cone section). For the
modifications on the tail, 1- I should double the fus-30.. Bob told in
the past to make a second one and "glue" it the original with a lot of epoxy
primer and rivets. In the file section, the picture of one fix by Wayne
show just a "rear wrap" (+/- 50% of the surface) not a full part. did I mist
something? 2- The tail post doubler as in the file ( Which thickness?)
3- I did remember someone told me to make a doubler on the top skin where
the fin attach.. Is it all or something else in that area?

Hi Jean !

My picture "hpnx0199.jpg" - 'Ontario Mod. # 1' in the ARCHIVES,
is about the smallest size doubler I would like. It picks up rivets
on the tailpost side, top bulkhead, and a few at the end of the
triangular FUS-89 piece. You don't have to cover the WHOLE FUS-30,
though !

I think you mean the horizontal doubler on the rear part of the
top bulkhead, in front of the fin - you can see a few rivets in that
on the picture. It extends up to the hole, and can be .032.

The angle gusset mentioned is a piece of .032 that connects
the top (doubler) bulkhead and the vertical fin post. "L" shaped.

Some have made these 2 into one piece .....
