teleflex cable
teleflex cable
Hi and Happy Spring (to those of us North of the equator anyway)
Thank you for the recent ideas on control pulleys.
I have also been unsuccessfully trying to match the 4703GG5-072B 3451 number on
my
teleflex cable to a commercial part to see what this cable really is. Presumably
072 is just the length in inches. Teleflex does list three grades of 3300 series
universal cable for marine throttle type controls. These look similar but none
of those numbers seem to match. Nor can I match to Morse Controls. Anyone know
what we have?
Several people have mentioned that they don't like the flex in the Rebel flap
cable. One gentleman did say that he likes it though, as the flaps tend to
automatically retract after takeoff. I have been contemplating using a second
teleflex cable to work in opposition to the existing design. One cable would
push, the other would pull.
Even easier though would be to keep to the original design but use a heavier
cable. Or use two of the MAM teleflex cables in parallel. That should result in
half the flex. Anyway I'd appreciate it if anyone can shed some light on what
our teleflex cable is. I'd also be interested in purchasing a teleflex cable if
anyone who has gone to electric flaps or such and would like to sell one.
(especially if someone in the Toronto area has one to sell)
cheers
Ken

Ken, The problem with the Teleflex cable is 2 fold! It not only flexes, but
the biggest problem with it is the slop in the assembly. Probably good for
3/16" play!

teleflex cable
Happy Spring (or bungee) !! :-)
I suspect that some of this "flex" is actually slop! If the cable is
not installed so that all of the play is taken up, there can be 1/4" of
slop - which can reduce the amount of flap travel ...
Some flex could be reduced by clamping the cable in extra places
along its length ....
<I> really don't have a problem with the standard setup - but I <did>
spend most of a day fine-tuning the flaps by pre-loading them & adjusting
the cable - and I added an extra couple of holes - a second one to give
an additional 6 degrees negative (only useful if you have more than 115 Hp!),
and an extra down position .... (my thoughts only - YMMD :-) )
This whole cable thing is really being overblown - the Rans kits
use much longer Teleflex cables for ailerons & elevators !!!

Teleflex cable
Hello to all; it's always great to see all these "pearls of builders' wisdom" on this site.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a path for the teleflex cable from the standard location flap handle to the mixer arm. Although I am not using Murphy's flap handle ( I'm following Glenn Cook's pattern and modifying a Mazda emerg. brake handle), I am leaving the handle in the stock location on the roof. It appears to be difficult to make it rigid enough ( with lots of supports); arc it without binding and not cross the skylight in the middle bay.
Thanks,
LUKE

Luke,
If you're building a Rebel (not an Elite), a small change to the
handle is all that you need. Just give the flat plate a 45 degree
dogleg forward, and add a wooden grip if you want. This will allow the
handle to tuck up forward out of the way in cruise, and puts the handle
at a good angle for pulling for positive flap. You won't have to worry
about extra gadgets pinching your hand/fingers. Generally, the force
needed is in the "two fingers" range, so a large lever is not necessary.
(The Elite needs much more force, so the longer handle is needed there.)
FWIW - I would not install the middle skylights. They just give
sunburnt necks ! The skylights forward, overhead, and at the far back
are all useful - it's only the row behind the seat that are not "a good
thing"(TM) ;-) .

Teleflex Cable
Hello All
Any Rebel builder out there who can readily measure the length, tip/to tip
of there Teleflex cable? Mine measure 66 1/4" and I am concerned it might be
about 3-4" short. I can not route it behind and over the 2" aileron torque
tube and reach the flap handle. Thanks in advance.

Teleflex cable
Hey group:
My good friend in Brazil, Jose Gozzi, is on the final leg of his Rebel
project and is in dire need of the shorter Teleflex Cable for his split
flap/aeileron. He says it is supposed to be 66 1/4 inches long and has a 74
inch like mine.
Does anyone have one available for purchase and/or lease etc. so I can get
him flying ASAP? As soon as I can procure one from MAC I will return it and
pay all the postages etc.
One of his sons will be coming to the US in a few weeks and I would like to
have it available for him to hand carry it back to Brazil with him.
Or can anyone tell me who the vendor for the original is so I can go direct
procurement or have the spare I have modified to the shorter length.
