For those interested, I just uploaded a few photos of a modification I made
to my FUS 331 gear mount. I put them in section 124 S/M-Modifications. It's
an attempt to reinforce the area around the bolt. The one gear failure we
all saw photos of showed that this bolt sheared through the thinnest section
of FUS 331 after the failure of the outer gear mount bolt/nut assy. Most
of us have gone to the next larger bolt AN8 which further decreases the wall
thickness where the failure occurred. I also remember someone mentioning
that they are seeing some wear/enlargement of this hole with time. My
belief (hope) is that the steel clamps around this area will minimize wear
and lesson the chance of catastrophic failure with my less than perfect
landings.
Regards,
Tom Packard
