I agree, buying a partially complete kit from a private builder is a "buyer-
beware" exercise.
That's why the quick-build option seems more attractive to me (They are
built in Mexico, I believe). I did look over the list of common
modifications
and saw that several are now "standard" in the new Rebel kits. The other
thing I'm considering is the fact that you can buy quick-build "subkits".
So, if
the Mackenzie STOL can be applied to a fully assembled wing, I'd order the
wing fully built, but elect to build the fuselage on my own (since most mods
appear to be in the fuselage).
I will approach MAM with your suggestion and see what they say. You'd
think that since I'm paying for the labor, I should be able to
request "reasonable" modifications. I'm willing to wager though, that MAM
wouldn't feel comfortable with this since they'd have no real way of
maintaining quality control over components produced this way.
I may just have to get someone to help me evaluate a partially complete kit
afterall...
