Allen,
I installed 5/16 nutplates inside the rear tube, but it's probably too late
if you already have everything riveted together. I think the manual says to
cut oversize holes to get sockets in there.

Hello all,

I'm looking ahead trying to avoid "gotchas". When I look at the install of
the slide tube assembly (fig 15.1.2) it appears the instructions were
written for the half tubes across the bottom of the cage. AN5-20 bolts
would be long enough in that case. However, I used the full tubes. So what
does one do?

I can drill over size holes in the front and rear faces of the cage tubes
so that I can insert sockets and use the -20 bolts or get longer bolts and
go all the way through. My instinct is that bolts that long would not be a
good idea. Too much opportunity to wiggles and stretch.

Any thoughts??

Yes as Jesse confirmed, your "instincts" are good. Use the same bolts
and make holes for a socket wrench to get access. I used the full tubes
but all bolts only go through one wall of each 2x2 tube. That way the
tubes are not crushed. Don't know if the spring gear is different.
Jesse's nutplates make it easier to remove the landing gear cross tubes
if you ever install floats but you can add some access/inspection ports
to do that if need be.

I rivetted the floor pan on before doing the corner wraps. Think I also
fitted the engine mount brackets before rivetting the corner wraps. I
did not rivet the glareshield in until the panel was wired and
instruments were all in though as you really need that access from the
top as long as you possibly can.
