[rebel-builders] Rebel - Elevator and Rudder Bend Reinforcement

Hi Allen !

I think the main reason was cosmetic - shouldn't hurt on top.
You will eventually have a problem, but could fly for a while -
it's just easier to do the fixes while building ...

If you do open up the elevator, adding the L shaped doubler
to the end rib would be worthwhile at the same time...

Hi Bob,

I wasn't aware of this mod when I built my elevators (hadn't found the list
yet) and I'm wondering if its important enough that I should retrofit now or
wait to see if I have a problem once I get flying. If I do retrofit, is the
location of the semi-circle doubler under the skin a cosmetic consideration
or is there a structural reason for this?

Thanks,

Hi Rich !

No worries ! Never seen a problem on Rebels.

I'm assuming you have done the L doubler on the outside elevator
ribs, as well as the semi-circle doubler above those ribs, under
the skin....

You already know about hand-pulling the end rivets, if necessary,
to clear the rivets on the other side - slowly, with a bit of an angle
until started. Same as on the ailerons.... although, you could
just drill new holes with separation ...

Gents,
I am getting ready to close up the rudder and the right elevator. A
friend
mentioned that RVs used to have a problem with cracks along the trailing
edges of the ribs near the bend in the skin. Has this ever been a problem
on
a Rebel?
Thanks for the help!
