Dave, my wife has suggested numerous times that we should get a 1-900
number!!!!!!!

Seriously, I used to take the time to rivet in anchor nuts for inspection
covers. More holes to drill and debur, rivets to install, etc. Then when you
bugger up a thread, you have to drill out the rivets and install a new one.

(8 x 32) Clip nuts are ideal! You just enlarge your locating holes to #11,
debur and slip the clip nut in place. It snaps into hole and ready to use.
If you bugger up the threads, unclip and throw away. MAM's wing holes have
15 holes per cover! Less than 2 minutes will install the clip nuts. May take
an hour to drill and rivet the same number of anchor nuts! I haven't looked
at the SR to see how the tail tips go on but I assume (you know make an ass
out of u and me) that they are the same as a Rebel (except aluminum). The
Elite wing is the same as the SR I believe, in that there will be 2
inspection covers at the strut fittings, 1 at the torque tube horn and one
at the torque tube support hanger bearing (the newer Rebels have just the 2
at the strut fitting). So you need 160 clip nuts per wing. They have uses
other places too, as you work through the aircraft. The nice thing is that
you can wait to add them all up at the end of construction and just snap
them on then to install your plates after final inspection! I guess I should
take a good look at my half million (plus) piece inventory of machine screws
and see if I have any stainless screws to put in all these clip nuts! This
is of course why MAM suggests riveting all these things in place! The kit
price would escalate, if they actually supplied the necessary clip or anchor
nuts to do the job properly!

44" Bulkheads: ALL your square bulkheads in the cabin section are the same
size! Do your self a favour and take a small piece of plywood and mark a
straight line and then 2 perpendicular ones 44"'s apart. Using old rivet
mandrels, make a crib along the lines to hold your 2 bulkhead pieces square
and exactly 44" edge to edge! Then put some mandrels along the other edge of
the bulkhead to hold snuggly in place. Drill the overlap, with the 9 holes
and leave cleco'd. Do all of them at one time and set aside. This will
quicken your cabin building as you just cut each one to the necessary length
as you need it! (USE A Miter Saw with plywood blade to cut)

The AILERON/FLAP hinges historically where bolted in and then forgotten.
Most ended up with their flaperons rubbing the top skin overhang with
nothing they could do about it, other than mess up the look of their
trailing edge by rolling up the skin! The SR instructions (I imagine the
Elite does too) showed the need to put access holes in the bottom skin to
get at the nuts! Useless on the SR, because if you go with extended tanks,
the center flap hinge is in the tank! I used very good solid quality, H.Duty
steel one lug anchor nuts as a replacement for the AN365 nuts. This way even
the hinges in the tank area can be removed if necessary, for adjustment or
repairs. As there are 5 hinges per wing, you need 20 - 1 lug anchors nuts
for this! (10 x 32)

The strengthening I was talking about has been taken care of in the Elite!

Keep at it, it's worth it!

You touched on a few somewhat cryptic topics to discuss at the Brampton
meeting,
what are the chances of you jotting down a few notes for those of us who
can't
make Bob's get together. You caught my attention with references to nut
plates
for inspection covers (OK, fairly self explanitory, but what size?) 44"
bulkheads, strengthening, aileron hinge bolt one-lug anchor nuts and
plastic
spacers to keep flap/ailerons from rubbing (I am talking about the Elite
here, I
believe it is much like the SR).

I am sure your extensive experience building Murphy's Rebel family would
save
some of us some grief from these notes.

Bob, how about point form notes/minutes of important topics from the
meeting so
that the larger comunity can attend by proxy? Just a thought from the
boonies.
Thanks

No!!!!!!! What is a "Colorado bargain"??
Has someone been ripped off!!!
Anything that is a bargain, never is!!!!!
Thats why my "for sale" Rebels are always a little higher priced than
some
of the others that come available!
Nothing Borrowed, Nothing Used!

99.9% sure I will be there Sunday! Probably driving down. Anything in
particular you want me to talk about, other than the Fabric (good and
bad),
Silicon spray, Clip nut usage, parts I have available, Fuselage 44"
square
bulkhead jig and strengthening hints, OR did you want me to just WING
it!
Wayne

P.S. For builders coming to the meeting, cash only, I'm not bringing the
VISA m/c! Silicon $10/can, Bringing a few thousand of each size of Clip
nuts
that are $1 each for 8/32 and 10/32, 6/32 are $1.25. Inferior style from
A/C
Spruce list at $2 and $3 each (deals made for high volume) Rebels need
about
50 for tail feather tip installation. SR's need 120 for the 4 main
inspection covers per wing (15/cover x 4 x 2 wings). (the Rebel now has 4
of
these covers also = 60 needed) Can also use for one wing tip only! MAM
expects you to rivet all in place! Whats the point of having an
inspection
hole or elevator tip that is riveted in place?? Also will be bringing
"solid" one lug anchor nuts ($1 each) that took me ten wings to realize,
but
they are perfect for the aileron hinge bolts. This way no access hole is
required/adjustment possible now, so don't have to live with those
rubbing
flaperons! Also bringing my black nylon wear washers for the
rudder/elevator
spar to hinge gap. MAM doesn't seem to be flogging the quantity I sold
them,
so I will go back to selling at $5 per dozen. These keep the S.S. rivets
from wearing into the attach hinge. I may also bring some other items I
feel
would be of value to the group.

Thanks for feeding my family in advance!!!!! See you Sunday!
