[rebel-builders] Rebel - Rudder Trim Tab

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:07 am

Hi Rich !

A MANUAL rudder trim tab is certainly not necessary, but
'nice to have'. I have had one on at least 2 Rebels - didn't
need much of a bend, but then you can fly straight, even if
the cables break, and it adjusts automatically with airspeed.

Changing the pull on one of the rudder pedal return springs
works well too, and is easy & clean .... but not quite as
good as a tab. Might be easiest to add one while building ...

Gents,

I am moving along on the rudder construction. Just about have it all
drilled and getting ready to preserve it before assembly. Thanks for the
tips! I believe I have managed to deconflict my rivet spacing on the end

I noticed on Deiter's very nice online builder's log that he attached a trim
tab (the good old fashioned manual type - just bend it to suit) to the
trailing edge. It looks good. Before I go ahead and fabricate one of those,
I was wondering what the opinion was from the more experienced Rebel crowd.
Is it necessary? Nice to have? Or simply "a good thing" as Martha Stewart
would say?
Thanks for the help!

[rebel-builders] Rebel - Rudder Trim Tab

Post by Bruce Georgen » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:07 am

My vert fin is set straight and I do need very little right rudder in cruise to fly true. It's not a big deal, I guess, because I have never taken the time to add a trim tab. I do use and find my elevator trim very useful. I fly an 0320 Lyc.
