The more common method is to wire the mics to the intercom connection on the
A200, such that he intercom is normally connected. Then, when PTT is
pressed, wire it such that the pilot's mic is switched from the intercom
connection to the coms connection.and if you like, simultaneously ground the
co-pilot mic. Best done with a DPDT relay but I have done two with a DPDT
push switch in the stick. Makes for a difficult job getting all the wires
run up through the stick. A relay, mounted remotely but triggered from the
PTT button in the stick, is a far better approach.
All that said and while it certainly works, it does mean the intercom is
'hot mic", or always on unless the PTT is pushed, rather than using a vox
switch. I have installed 5 of these radios that way but let me say, I think
a separate intercom is the way to go and that is what I am doing on my
aircraft.
It needs to be said that the wiring info on this aspect in the owner's
manual is not particulary useful and in the service manual it is no better.
It has led one common Australian aircraft, the Lightwing, to appear with a
separate toggle switches to control the radio/intercom operation, as well as
the PTT button. I dont know whether it was the factory approach or that of a
particular installer but I think it is a very clumsy approach. However, I
think they were led there by the diagram in the owner's manual.

it really wasn't clear. That's why I asked here, I figured somebody would
be able to explain it. I'd prefer a VOX type setup, but could certainly
live with the push to talk... I'll probably spend most of my time in this
airplane solo anyway.

intercom. Leastwise I don't see any way to wire a VOX squelch adjustment
on my icom.
FWIW the hot mic with noise cancelling on my flightech intercom works
very well regardless of mic gain settings. I like it better than the VOX
type intercoms that I've used.
I don't understand why one would one want separate mic gain adjustments
on a radio? I'm slowly matching mic gains on the headsets so that all
headsets are interchangeable. The factory mic gain setting on my icom
was set way too high when I purchased it.
