Dear Mike,

It comes off no problem. I had to reglass some of it because the gelcoat
cracked. The factory fiberglass work won't win any prizes!

Hi group,
I recently bought the tail fairing after my own attempt failed. I just
couldn't make it smooth enough, I knew there was a reason I built a metal
plane! The purchased fairing came in 2 pieces, a RS and LS. I am told to
glass the halves together. Does it come off ok as a 1 piece item? Looks
like you may have to fight the flare of the tail cone as you pull it
forward and then off.
I also installed the ground handler kit, it sure is a nice piece and good
idea.

You're not supposed to do the math until 6 months after the first flight !!

Hi all,
Made a big mistake today. You know all those receipts you been throwing in
the corner to finish your kit. Well, I went and added them all up
.................................$$!
Any one have an idea what a completed Elite on wheels is worth in the US?
Any way, I am about 99% complete. I have to fit the wing tips, make some
sort of ladder step, and fit inspection covers to the wing control
surfaces and that will be it. Possibly a flight late January depending on
the winter we are having. I don't know if that time of the year is any
good for breaking in an engine other than the shock cool issue.

Hi Mike !

Sounds GREAT !!! Keep plugging !

January should be ok for test flying - it'll be wide open
most of the flight anyway, and that will help avoid any cooling
problems !! ;-) :-)

As usual, fly with just over half tanks, and about 50 lb. tied
down in the baggage area..... use 1 notch flaps for takeoff with
the Elite, and 2 for landing. (The Rebel takes 'full' for both !)
Taxi a bit first, doing circles, to seat the brakes, and get used
to the tailwheel kick-out.

Hey Builders

When I got my Rebel I also had brake problems with inadequate brake
pressure, as it turned out the geometry of the master cylinders, they were
mounted on the rudder pedal up right tubes. Murphy has a upgrade that shows
the master cylinders mounted on the floor. which I did and now my brakes are
prefect. ( before I changed the geometry I could only hold the plane back at
1800 rpm with a LOT of pedal pressure and now a can hold at full throttle )

Do the VG's slow don your cruise at all ?

I am a new tail dragger pilot with a total 16 hours and so far my landings
are not too bad !

Hi builders,

I been out of touch with the group for a year and a half and had to see
how
it was going out there. I been in contact with a couple builders since and
discussed some problems.

My Elite now has been flying for 2 years and about 110 hours. It is such a
great airplane! It seems to have the best of both worlds in short field
and
cruise. I add VG's to it about a year ago which knocked 10 mph off my
stall.

I still don't have the greatest brakes, maybe ok for a tail dragger but
wish
I had a bit more. I believe the problem is inadequate brake pressure due
to
geometry, but I haven't measured it with a gauge yet. I did recently
replace
my pads and found out for some reason I can't get long enough rivets. Does
anybody know what the deal is here. My back plates are aluminum and about
twice as thick as the steel ones in certified aircraft. I ended up machine
countersinking the rivets deeper into the backplate so that standard
rivets
would work. Maybe I weakened them by doing this?

I see some disappointment with MAM in some recent letters, I used to get
frustrated too when I was building. Hang in there the airplane is great
and
worth the effort.

We asked for information/quote on the cowling etc. also. <Humor>Maybe
we should have mentioned windshields.......;-P</Humor>

Hello Rob.

Like others, I didn't like the simple crush tube. I used standard aluminum
bar stock and filed it to fill the structural square tube. Pics at:
http://www.efogelin.com/aviation/murphy ... index.html

I have been on floats and standard gear for two years and 200 hours and have
had no problems.

The rudder and elevator horn mods are not for improving handling. The
elevator mod is a Service Bulletin. I believe that there was either horn
and/or spar cracking. So, this is for additional support.

The rudder horn mod is a Service Bulletin on the Moose. Other Elite owners
have done this on the Elite as we have more similar tails to a Moose than a
Rebel.

These are safety mods, not handling issues.

Hi All

About to carry out the mod on the gear installing the alloy blocks to
strengthen this up. Has anyone had any problems with your spring gear after
completing the Mod?
Also curious about the value of the rudder and elevator horn mod to improve
handling?

Hi Rob

The gear mod is a great idea, helps prevent crushing of the forward FUS-5
tube.

The elevator spade leading edge mod is a good idea to improve flight
handling, reducing a pitch instability caused by the slabby front end of the
original.

I think most people leave the rudder spade leading edge as is.
