myself and Cecil Shaw (fling rebel) are using a fram remote automotive oil
filter mount, 35$ cdn from local parts store, just have to get hoses,
connect to oil cooler & engine and its done !! why pay hundreds for no
reason

There "could" be a reason.
Make sure the steel nipple is reasonably far engaged into the aluminum
housing. I've heard of two issues with these. Some of these only have a
couple of threads engaged and have been reported to strip out and let
the filter fall off. Don't know which brands are good or suspect but
might be worth taking a look since quality control on such things tends
to be no better than for a Lycoming. ;( Other issue is to check
carefully the thread on the nipple. Some are a metric thread that is a
bit smaller and will let an inch filter screw on easilly but with
inadequate strength. Same result as above...

hows the flying going ??

this filter adapter has large steel nipple which you screw in yourself, at
housing end it has maybe 1/2" inch engagement and the filter end engages on
this nipple at least the same amount, but you are right about quality, you
never know and time will tell but it seems to work for now and Cecil has not
had a problem yet, knock wood,

although on another not of flying fun and mishaps, got call from Cecil from
Ottawa river where he has flew up for white water rafting, he beach his
float plane on sand beach went to dinner and such for few hours and can back
to find water level had dropped and he is stuck, ha ha, now he has to dig it
out, always fun these rebels

The B&C are nice. They don't clutter up the already compact firewall space with hoses and connections, that can leak too. You can poke a hole in the filter so it will drain as the engine cools down and avoid the mess.

Does the oil filter adaptor kit require the removal of the screen or
does the screen stay in place? If the latter, does it still need
periodic inspection?
