requied that I take the spark plugs out and turn it over with the starter

location on my O320 for prelubing before flight with a hand pump. If you

Thanks Dale. I've heard of this, but since this is a new engine I just
thought I would try to comply with all the mfg's recommendations. Thanks

If it is no big trouble, I too would like to have some pictures as I
am about ready to start my engine for the first time after it has been
sitting for almost two years. It has some desiccants installed in its
openings, but I would like to get a lot of oil up on top. Second it
would also be a good idea to pump oil after it has been sitting for
awhile. So I would appreciate some pictures also.

At work here we took a large air tank and stood it up vertical. Welded a pipe thread bung to the top and put a fitting with a stand pipe reaching to the bottom, this will be for the oil hose to the engine, no.4 is big enough. We then added another bung for a regulated air supply. We also have a shut off valve on the oil hose, because once you run out of oil you just blow air into your engine pushing all the oil out. So, best to shut off before this happens. I don't know if a standpipe is necessary, you could probably just put the hose at the bottom of the tank and eliminate it, along as the oil is covering it.
Also, with 50# of air pressure you will maybe only barely move the gauge on the engine a couple pounds due to the low volume of oil that comes from a no.4 hose, so don't expect more. The reason for 50# is just to get enough push to the far reaches of the lube system in the engine.
On our big engines, if we don't use enough pressure all the lube goes to the crank and never makes it to the rocker arms further upstream.
I heard from others that pulling the plugs and spinning it over is normal procedure for many builders.

Before I head for the shop thought I would just throw out........for all you
guys with engines sitting around waiting to be installed.....they should be
sitting upside down on a tire and have enough oil in them to submerge the
camshaft and lifters. Better yet on an automotive engine stand so you can
rotate it everytime you think about it.

Start up as Dale pointed out...plugs out and spin 'till you have oil
pressure is acceptable practice (except for maybe that H2AD Bob had).

For all the guys pressurizing the system,,if you don't rotate the engine
while doing so is not good and if you don't drain the excess oil out after
doing so is harder on the engine then rotating to get oil pressure up.
After you engine has sat for a month or so with out being run all the oil
had drained out of critical parts anyways are you going to pressurize the
system again. When pressurizing the system make sure the oil is flowing in
the right direction or you will do more harm then good... Just a few things
I have learned over the years I thought I would add my two cents even with
inflation thought it might be worth something.. Dale SR-033

If you have the remote oil filter and oil cooler, disconnect both lines from the engine and fill the oil cooler and oil filter with oil as the thermo valve will not pass oil to these, untill the engine has warmed up.
