Rebel 0145R - paints

Imron ??? Some of these nice finishes can be very hard to patch,
if you get a hole - the new paint doesn't want to stick to the old,
super-shiney finish !!

Alumigrip, and PPG Dura-Thane are also popular glossy finishes ....
(not cheap, though - the Alumigrip was about $275 US/gal. - in 1990 !!)
FINR is all Alumigrip, over Stits on the fabric ....

This "silver" paint Bob mentions for UV protection is the POLYSPRAY portion
of the Polyfiber system. A very highly aluminum pigmented "paint". This will
provide your UV protection for the fabric and can be left at this stage if
you are leaving your aircraft in natural aluminum or your can paint to match
your paint scheme. Once again you should use the polyfiber paint to complete
the "flexible" covering system. Howards on the other hand were painted (by
Doug Ronan A/C) with the same "dupont"(can't think of the product name but
as used on aircraft by major a/c refurbishers) paint as the rest of his
plane and have held up very well.(very flexible paint and does not crack) We
had some painted masking sheet and folded the sheet in half over a month
later and it did not crack or peel. Much easier to get the colours to match
this way instead of using polyfiber paint on flaperons and then something
else on the aluminum airframe.

Glad I said I won't have much time for this list, up to about 4 1/2 hours
per day now! I know aviation won't cause a divorce or anything but this
computer stuff might!!!!

Another VERY important part of all of these chemistry 'systems' is
a good layer of ultraviolet protection !! This usually consists of a
few coats of silver 'paint', or some specially formulated finish that
blocks sunlight from the fabric. Without this protection, the fabric
will disintegrate - crumble to powder - after some time in the sun !!
With it, it can last for the life of the aircraft (or until a new paint
job is desired :-) ).

Sounds like you will have to scrape or cut out a piece of fabric to
see IF it has this protection .... Probably better to recover now, with
the right chemistry combination, if necessary, than to have problems
later !

Hope you didn't mention my name as the reason for concern about what he
used! Aviation community is to small for that, but then again, I imagine
there is probably someone on the list that has already passed on the
questioning of their work to him already!

This is exactly what the ex-owner of the flaperons I recovered was told,
top
coat with any urethane or Durathane paint. I have it in writting in the
ex-owners notes! The rest is history and I still have the evidence!

Ceconite is a trade name for one brand of polyester fabric, but it also
has
a system to follow. It is NOT: to use some certified aircraft glue (for
fabric or wood?) and then a "flexible primer"! Why not follow the
recommended installation procedure for this brand, no different than you
would with the polyfiber (stits) system?

I don't own shares in Polyfiber Corp., so I am definitely not bringing
this
to light for my benefit!
