Gents,

Today, I faxed off the order form for my Rebel Sub Kit #1. I would like
to sincerely thank you all for helping me come to this decision.

12 years ago this month I was introduced to the Rebel at Watsonville, CA
by the lovely Colleen Dyck. I clearly remember my oafishly large self
passing up a Kitfox and an Avid on display as being far too small. Then
Colleen asked me to check out the Rebel, and I fit! And it was roomy! And
for 12 years, off and on, I have wanted to do this.

So, I am presently filled with a range of emotions - starting with "What
have I done?" and ranging from "fear of failure" to "you have to chase this
dream" and everything in the middle. If I always listened to my doubts, I
would never do anything worthwhile.

I imagine many of you, if not all of you, know these feelings from your
own experience.

So, I look forward to learning much about airplanes and myself from this
journey. I beg your experienced indulgences in advance for all the
questions I will inevitably ask.

Welcome aboard.

Just think of this as a grand journey. Along this journey you will
encounter smooth sailing, dips in the road, potholes, curves, steep
climbs, and long descents. The journey may not be what you entirely
envision at this time however the destination remains unchanged.

Realize that without the destination there is no journey, and without
the journey there is no destination.

When you reach the destination (plane flying) you really are just
starting a new journey.

My completed Rebel continues to provide me, a journey, places,
activities, commodore, fellowship, excitement and it just keeps getting
better.

Rich,
The FAA, in it's infinite wisdom, long ago passed blessing on
the ' experimental - amateur built ' category. The justification and reason
for this category is for educational purposes. If, in the history of the
FAA, they've done nothing else right, they got this one right! You're about
to learn volumes about aircraft, fabrication and yourself. Start now with
the mindset that you focus on a single component. Find pleasure and pride
in building an aileron. Then move onto the construction of a wing. Do much
research, ask many questions and then exercise your best judgement to
install the engine of your choice. Note that I said "of your choice".
That's what this is all about! Remember that ditty about The Land of the
Free? This is it, Bud. After years of learning, asking, trying, frowning
and smiling, you'll have an airplane. In a strange way, however, you'll
have gained much more; you'll have earned an education that money can't
buy..
Ask lots of questions and savor every moment. You've done
well! By the way, that Kitfox is also a hellova airplane!

Hello Rich,
I hope that you have an affinity for metal under the skin!!! I have just extracted some very small sharp chards of metal that buried themselves as I was cutting a section this morning; so a little pain goes with the territory of building!!!(lol). So enjoy the experience(not the pain). See if you can find yourself a good technical counsellor to oversee your work and to gentling prod you when you slow a bit.
