I was scratching my head last night looking at the float attach stuff. I'm
wondering about doing something a little different than Wayne's .063" plate
on the front of bulkhead A and interested in any comments. Basically I'm
thinking of doubling the area with .032 pieces butted just above the float
fitting, one on each bulkhead (A and the aft one) going up 2 1/2" above the
1/2 circle cutout. These would be in between the two bulkheads instead of
one 063 piece on the front side of bulkhead A. Could do the same on the
bottom side of the float fitting too.
My thinking is that this allows me to keep with rivets instead of bolts through
the float bracket, and shares the verticle load to both bulkheads instead of
just bulkhead A and the 063 add-on. I'm also wondering if stress/strain has
ever shown at the bottom 1/2 circle as maybe reinforcing here is over kill?
Just trying to save some ounces by this possible change, unless I hear of
some negatives I hadn't thought of.
Comments?
