[rebel-builders] PLACEMENT (Leading Edge Landing and Taxi Li

Post by Jeff McMurrer » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:34 am

Wayne,

Just to add to your wise words and thoughts. While building the Rebel, I wanted to move the leading edge light closer in towards the lift strut. Prior to cutting a nicely finished wing, we sought the advice and thoughts of the factory on <my> decision of light placement.

This is the reasoning on leading edge light placement:

The design of the Murphy wing being square, not tapered, there is an area around the wing strut, which bares a load; I do not remember the square foot area size.

Therefore, if anyone has moved his or her leading edge light closer in to the lift strut than what is required in the manual, I would definitely seek the advice from the factory on your decision.

Just my thoughts, from my experience of thinking of changing light position.

Jeff

I beg to differ with you Mike...but there is no difference between the
Rebel/Elite or SR/Moose wing layout and you have to remove the
front spar to
install the leading edge light system.

I would contact the factory to see if they have any concerns of
having a
foot of the front spar missing mid wing.

Really? The spar is affected? Not on a Super Rebel. Hard to
believe an
Elite wing is that much smaller. Plenty of room ahead of the
spar to fit
the Murphy leading edge light kit. I put mine just outside of
where the
lift strut attaches.
