[rebel-builders] Electronic fuel gauges

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:31 am

Hi Roger !

Why complicate things ?? The sight guages are simple, and work
100 % of the time, without power, and are very accurate !

If you add a small shut-off valve (like the Renegade valve)
at the bottom of the tubes, it's really easy to change the
1/4" clear plastic tubing, if that ever becomes necessary....

Just one opinion - from that opinionated Rebel Guy up north ! ;-)
.... Keep it simple, GET IT FLYING !! ;-) :-)

I've been looking all over for fuel shut off valves like you describe -
can't find. Can you help with a source for the 'renegade valve' ???

[rebel-builders] Electronic fuel gauges

Roger:

I used the Princeton gauges from ACS. They appear to work very well, and
the installation was simple, though it did involve getting a plate machined
to provide a good solid surface to seal the sensor. They interface with
conventional gauges, or with an EFIS. I did not like the idea of having to
hammer the root ribs flat to take the sight gauge fittings. When I tried
that, I got some small cracks and had to scrap the rib.

I think there are some pics on the archive, or I can upload some more if
you're interested.

Al

Hi Tom !

This is the fuel valve that Murphy supply for the Renegade biplane.
I think it's 1/4" .... Was also used on the original Rebel. It's
just a simple on/off quarter turn valve, with about a 1" handle.

I've used these, and simple clear plastic fuel line sight guages,
for most of 16 years, with mogas and avgas with no problems. The
sight guages usually need replacement after about 3 or 4 years -
more often if you get 'bad' gas - had that in both avgas & mogas -
some old solvents, or diesel, in the tank ???!!

Thanks to all of you who replied. I haven't made a decision yet, but
