HEllo Ken

Thank for the advise. I will change them and put them inside.

If you are talking about the interior corner wraps that go from the
floor to the side walls then I'd keep what you have already done and
rivet them together wherever the joints are.
.
For exterior corner wraps I think I'd want to join them at the bulkheads
as per the manual -unless the factory says it is OK to do otherwise and
you don't mind the slightly odd looking rivets. I guess if you have
enough overlap to put two rows of rivets at the joint then standard
repair practice probably says it is OK to join them anywhere the joint
is. That is the impression I get from AC43.13 anyway.

wraps or if I can splice them where they joint (they have 5/8"-3/4" overlap)
?

Well if you already have the holes drilled then it is difficult and time
consuming to duplicate the parts especially if drilled #30. You could
ask MAM if one rivet line is enough to join them or another option might
be to join them with one rivet line and then add a doubler behind them
so that the doubler picked up more rivets than just one joint line. I
think that would be as strong and only you (and maybe another Rebel
builder) will know that the joints are normally at a bulkhead. The more
I think about this the more I think that if one rivet line at the
bulkhead is good enough - maybe MAM would approve a one rivet line joint
that is not on a bulkhead.

Reading this again I think you mean the two lower exterior corner wraps
back in the tail behind the baggage compartment. If so then I think
those are probably the least stressed corner wraps and I'd be even more
inclined to keep what you've already done.

[rebel-builders] still a questions...

Post by Jean Poirier » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:31 am

Hello Ken,

Too late, first side done, doing second one. The only real challenge, is
the splice, because first wrap already drill, but feaseable. May be all
people think I should know that a slice is almost always in a bulkhead
intersection with the skin, but couple more words in the manual.... could
save some frustration for beginners without a flying Rebel in a close
area...

Anyway, I am in the shop, smelling primer, making noise and dreaming about
the Sun'Fun NEXT MONTH!

Thanks again
