The Murphy Builders Site

I'm writing this note just to let you know that the reason the server was unavailable today was due to a network outage in the Fairbanks area. The memory errors that I was seeing on the server have been resolved. My provider does not currently have any estimate when the service will be back up... but I thought I'd write this now in hopes that it will come back up while I'm sleeping.

I don't know when this will make it out, but when it does you will finally know why the site hasn't been available. Apparently the main fiber optic trunk in Alaska was cut in two early today. Phone lines are down, the internet it down, cell phones are down, credit card processing is down. It's a fine example of how dependent we have become on technology. Only a few of the stores I visited today were able to process credit cards the old fashioned way... swiping them with the old carbon sheets. I was lucky to find a pump to buy gas so I could get to work tonight. I suppose I could have stood in line with everybody else to get cash at the bank... couldn't use the ATM either.

Anyway, once this goes out that should be an indication that things are back to normal.

The list server was offline for several hours today due to a network outage here in Fairbanks. It appears to be back up now, so if you had tried to connect and failed, it should be alright to try again now.
