Rick,
=20
Thanks for the quick reply, when you mentioned 'main strut' I =
thought there may have been a problem in the wing strut area, thank =
goodness there isn't!
=20
You have sent this note to the 'Flying-Rebels' group, there is the =
other group 'Murphy-Rebel' which I think has covered this topic of =
problems with areas of the bungee gear.
=20
=20
WHERE does one find out about the 'Murphy Rebel' group ?
Is this the "builder support" section at MAM ?
=20
=20
It also I think, has covered ways of overcoming those problems. =
There is a comprehensive archives that can be accessed which should give =
you a good background on this.=20
WHERE.......can you give me some e-mail addresses so I can look 'em =
up ?
I AM registered with MAM on their builders support page.....but I =
have a few gripes with MAM
and I'm not getting any input to alter these feelings.
=20
I hope this helps.
=20
Are you building or flying a Rebel over there?
Wendy (my wife) and I have finished the wings, 95% of the fuselage, =
the instruments are all
mounted but not wired or plumbed as yet, the engine shell (0-235) is =
sitting there.....been building our own cowl ....not happy with =
Murphy's....
But the engine has to come out and be rebuilt (by me).....
The big pieces need assembling and it all needs paint.....
=20
I've been telling friends ...."It'll be in the air in 6 =
months"....for the last two years !
I'm attaching a pic'.............tell me if it comes through OK or =
not..
=20
Cheers

Dear Alister,
G'day from Oz.
Peter Kempthorne rang us a couple of weeks ago to talk about =
alloy v8 engine installations
(I hope I talked him out of it)... and we've seen articles in =
magazines of your Rebel ... looks
very nice...
In September 99 issue of Rebel Rouser the front page has a photo =
of Earl Leaman's Rebel
lying on its back after a main leg strut failure on landing and =
subsequent rollover...
(Do you subscribe to the Rebel Rouser magazine?)
It seems everyone who checks this main strut and associated =
bolts say that "theirs is worn
as hell" and failure is inevitable. The wear is substantial by =
50 hours.
I am really annoyed that MAM doesn't notify us of possible =
failures/problems like this so we
can rectify them before we do lots of damage and spend lots of =
money.
I'm not 100% sure where the failure occurs, I am endeavouring to =
find out...hence the letter
to flying Rebels.
Tell you more when I find out..
Regards
Rick
