Rebel problems

Rick

I suspect everyone with e-mail is already on this list or its sister list
murphy-rebel@dcsol.com
I am aware of all the upgrades you mentioned except the main strut failure,
so generally the murphy-rebel@dcsol.com list has kept us reasonably well
informed and allowed a good exchange of information. As you implied, MAM did
post the floatfix reinforcement to the web site and they also mailed me a copy.
I have purchased the floats though so I don't know if that is the reason that I
received it.
BTW you didn't mention that MAM now uses thicker corner wraps up to the bottom
corners of the firewall. Don't know what kit numbers that applies to, although
the first 100 or so for sure.

I too wish that when MAM incorporates an upgraded part or mod into their
product, they would mention it, perhaps in the builders section of the website.
Presumably they don't feel that most of us need these minor improvements.
Obviosly some of them are done for cost reasons or reasons other than safety.
Many of the things you mention are not factory mods though.

Alister for instance, seems to be leading the way for evaluating the Rebel in
the "hard use" rough field environment and he has been good about sharing his
knowledge. Since I am still building, I certainly like to evaluate all the ideas
though and sometimes include them. Wayne has also been very good about posting
things to look for during inspections. And Bob P. posts comments and info that
is invaluable. A New Year's thank you to all the contributors!

Maybe a list of things to check during an inspection is an idea since most of us
don't have the general knowledge of an aircraft engineer to fall back on.

Anyway, Happy New Year
Ken

Dear fellow Rebellers............
G'day from "down under" and a very Happy New Year to =
you ALL !!!
........................................................
I read, with concern, the article in the last Rebel Rouser magazine , the article about
Earl Leaman's "main strut failure" on his Rebel and subsequent rollover during a landing.
I became even MORE concerned when I read where other builders have inspected
THEIR Rebels and found the SAME imminent failure just waiting to happen =
to their own plane !
Can some one out there tell me WHY we have to hear this stuff from =
"unofficial" and "grapevine" sources ?!?!?!?......WHY aren't we ALL made aware of
