Don't worry, I'm not reviving the horse.

Wow. I've been off the list for a few days and just skimmed through this
thread. It was exhausting. I hope the horse is truly dead, but I just
gotta say one thing.
You should have seen the manual for the KR-2 that I got about 50% done
before I quit and sold the kit. This was in the mid 80s. The "manual" was
basically a pamphlet with about 20 or 30 pages and a couple of drawings and
was at least 50% wrong. The Murphy manual has been a pleasant "cook-book"
after that experience. It hasn't been hard filling in the gaps, especially
with this forum. Even with the horrible KR-2 manual I didn't give up on the
kit because of the manual. I was figuring things out one step at a time
with no builder's list and no help. I just got tired of building and bought
a completed KR-2 so I could go flying. That's not going to happen with my
Super Rebel.

Note the new subject header.
I stayed out as long as I could.
For the record, I am an Elite builder, lowtime, most of the way through the
tail group.
Could the manual be better? Yes! So could several of the competing brand
manuals I have seen, and been told about by area builders further along
then me
on their aircraft projects. The purpose here is to understand the process
and
build, learning along the way. That includes figuring some of it out on
mour
own. I must be doing something right, because even as a first time builder,
based on inspections from several more experienced builders, the finished
product is turning out right.
But I bought my kit based on my assessment of the entire PROJECT, not just
the book. And for my "mission," this is the right bird.
Are there issues with the aircraft? Some.
I hear about them from all other manufacturers as well.
I think some of the issues here have been overblown for personal reasons by
select individuals.
As to the well circulated quote from one dissatisfied Moose builder, that
letter is ONE fact. It's content open to interpretation. And it's writer
perhaps biased. The many more letters and postings from many more builders
are more
facts. And it seems to me Murphy as proposed sulutions to the main issues.
Instead of just complaining about manual, how about sending in a page
number
and the corrected information so MAM can correct the book for future
builders? We should all be doing that if we believe in the "community" of
shared
knowledge this forum is supposed to be.
And as to this whole thread, while it is valid to discuss the less
appreciated parts of the program, it seems to have been started by a fairly
new name
to the list. My recollection is that this writer started asking questions
about the product so he could "evaluate," and now is trying to "sell" us on
another product.
I made my decision based on a lot of research and information from others.
I'm not about to change my mind, and I believe the vast majority of people
on
this list won't either. If you prefer the competition's product (or just
their
manual) buy it.
Let's not turn this into a Murphy Aircraft bashing session. There's no
purpose to that, and no profit for any of us. The "profit" to us all in this
forum
is the sharing of knowledge and "tricks to the trade" we all need to build
a
superior airplane, which I believe the Murphy airplanes are.
