So you're spending $9000 to $18,000 to fix problems with the Moose? I must
really be missing something, for the life of me I can't think of what is
wrong with the Moose that could possibly cost that much... the tail wheel
issue right now is the only big ticket item I can think of, and it wont cost
anywhere near that much... Ted, do you have what you spent on this issue
figured into your operating costs... I bet you do.

Don't forget to add in about 25-50% of the kit cost to fix all the
safety and other problems with the Murphy kit and its manual. That's
what it is costing me to fix the problems with Moose--and I am doing it
cheap.

Brent,

Thaks for your reply. It best to hear responses from the real builders..

I imagine its kinda daunting to say bad things abt the Murphy planes
after you've spent some $ on it and you dont want to upset the other
builders on the web site.

And the ego thing is there too.

I for one really appreciate every sentence all the builders give. Even
if one exaggerates ones feelings, its still subjective feelings about
the experience.

Thanks,

Wm HaRvey

[rebel-builders] Murphy Cost

I do have the tailwheel issue factored into my operating costs. I will
have to say that the large part of my expense there has been tools and
rivets plus a new swivel (part # LG-315). MAM traded my old (very
cracked) FUS-358 for a new one in exchange for providing feedback to
Murphy staff & the work I did on the webpage documenting everything.

I do plan to make other mods in the near future (e.g. side channel to
stiffen things up as a few other builders have done) that are not yet
factored in. Also, items like upgrading FUS-309 & 310 to the new
version, etc. I have hope to get Brian Godden out to look over my plane
at annual time in April--no telling what he will find <grin>.

There's always some expensive thing to fix/upgrade on any plane no
matter what type it is. To be fair, I have heard a few sad stories from
a couple of builders though.

[rebel-builders] Murphy Cost

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:22 am
by Wayne G. O'Shea
I said enough the last round Jeff....I'm just going to keep my lid shut this
time about these "real builders" that start whining about the costs of
someone else building it for them! Cheese is expensive I hear! Hope all is
swell with you and yours ....at the rainy end of Canada!

Wm....how many emails are there in the dcsol archives? How many are there
helping individuals make it to the flight line? How many are there in the
negative? All you seem to be picking about is all the negatives and that
tells you something right there! Quite trying to stir the pot. Who are you??
Brent's lawyer...LMAO ! Lots of readily available "fixes" or build your own
fixes for the minor descrepancies in the Murphy line up. Maybe I'm just so
use to the beast after all these years that nothing surprises me. Sure the
landing gear needs some work (don't care which model) but that's why
everyone that wants a good airplane hangs out here...to keep on top of
what's been done...what works....what doesn't. Negative rants help
absolutely nobody! Constructive criticism on the other hand is a helpful
tool.

DANG...back to biting my lip........ LOL

I think I should just check out of here permanently and be like all the
other businesses that have followed me, over the last 13 years, to build
full time (silent)! I may actually get some projects done around here if I
did just that. Think I'll start a trial run right now....I hear an air drill
calling my name!

Cheers guys,
Wayne
