I noticed that on pg. 76 of the Jan. 06 issue of Sport Aviation that a Mark
Kohut of Plano, Illinois has a Rebel with an O-540, 260 HP, fixed pitch
prop. He stated that " I get a clean 135 mph at 2200 rpm and a fuel burn of
9 gph." Comments?

Hi Lonnie !

They missed out the word "SUPER" in front of Rebel in the magazine !
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed it ! Mark's SR is on the Murphy
web site, under "Murphy Aircraft - Our story" on the left ....

He's doing well in the speed dept. - wonder what the MP was ??!! ;-)

Rebel With O-540

It's amazing how much a Rebel on spring gear looks like a Super Rebel from a
distance. Hard to tell them apart. But I'm pretty sure the one in Sport
Aviation is a Super Rebel. It has the fiberglass dorsal fin which I think
is not available for the Rebel, but I don't know that for sure. The builder
did not use all of the available side windows for the Super Rebel adding to
it's Rebel look. (I didn't use all the side window options either.)
Besides, I'm pretty sure an O-540 on a Rebel would be near impossible.

Mike

Oh...and I don't believe the 9 gph! I burned 10gph when flying FOKM on
amphibs. Burn about 9gph flying mine on Amphibs, 8.5 on wheels. (150HP!)
