Penetanguishene Ski Fly in - February 4th 2006

Believe it or not........the ice is in great condition as of noon today.
Over 10 inches thick and dry. Monday it was covered in water...today it
frozen...no snow cover and good to go. A dusting of about 4 inches of fluffy
snow would make it great...but that doesn't look like it will happen.

When landing stick to the middle of the lake or up the South/West shore.
Avoid the North/East long shoreline that borders the road as this is where
the inflow/run off comes in and the ice is a tad different colour there and
I chose not to explore on it today.

Bruce Tinney has worked hard getting the wood cut, shelter structure ready
for the wind break and a wood stove ready to haul over......and he deserves
a HUGE round of applause!

As of now the ski flyin is a >GO< for Saturday Feb 4th 10am to ? ....unless
we get a downpour tomorrow. I will update once again evening night >IF AND
ONLY IF< anything has changed.

If the weather doesn't cooperate on Saturday..ie snowing hard or raining...
then we will move to Sunday.

If you don't see another message then assume the flyin is a go on Saturday
morning.

If anyone coming needs fuel on site for their flight home, in 100LL or
regular car gas please advise ASAP! 100LL is easy...I have 500 gallons
here....car gas I have to go to town to get.

Cheers,
Wayne O'Shea oifa@irishfield.on.ca

This sounds amazingly appealing as I sit here locked in my office. CRAP! All I
need to do is break outahere, proseal and close my left wing, make a
fuselage, hang an engine and an ASI, a few miscellaneous items more, and
I'M THERE.

Seriously tho, the idea of being able to come to these -- someday-- is great
motivation.

Thanks Wayne !

Looks like you might even get some snow for Saturday - Sunday
doesn't look too good, though ... Good luck !

Anna & I will be in Kitchener for a 3 day business owners conference,
heading down for Friday afternoon session, so no flying this weekend ..
Got a bit in last Friday anyway - the Rebel still remembered how ! :-)

Thanks Wayne I haven't put my skis on yet as the grass is still green down
here. The forecast For tommorrow doesn't look to good for a cross-country
flight though. (sigh) Maybe I'll get to Matchedash this year.

Well it's snowing here now. I'll post an update tonight as to whether wheels
will be a good idea still if it clears for tomorrow.

Well at this point we are still a go. About an inch of slushy stuff on the
ice now...hopefully it quits snowing (pretty much has now) and that freezes
up overnight.

I would say at this point though I WOULD DEFINITELY NOT TRY A WHEEL LANDING
TOMORROW!

Weather doesn't look good though for the weekend. Snow warning out for
tomorrow and high winds by tomorrow night....but we know how good weather
predictions are these days...so we're not going to call it off just yet. If
it's not howling here in the morning and/or not snowing we will be a go and
we hope for enough local participation to make it worth while.

The burgers have been purchased, the BBQ is ready to go, Bruce has the
shelter structure built and the wood stove ready to drop off.

Will post in the am if there are any changes...but for now it's still on for
tomorrow, Sat Feb 4th 2006, morning.
