Spring gear vs. Bungee gear

Posted: Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:45 pm
by David L. Tuck
Can anyone tell me what are the advantage's or disadvantage's to the two
gear systems for the Rebel?
I do want to put the bird on anphibs I hope? but will be on some type of
floats for sure!
I ordered the gear from MAM because mine was not in the kit when we dug it
out of the hanger, not sure where they went? But we purchased the new bungee
gear and MAM sent the spring gear instead, So should I send it back or just
put the spring gear on?
Any advice would be of great help.
Thanks everyone.

That's great news ! Thought the number sounded familiar !!
It'll be really good to see her flying it !!!!! :-)

Definitely stick with the bungee gear - you can add Wayne's
die spring mod later (next time he's doing a batch of 'em ...).
You likely should upgrade to the new Murphy wheels, brakes,
and axles at the same time, and the new plexi windshield -
save a lot of grief later ! Check the Murphy site for ALL
the Service Bulletins - yours might even be one of the ones
that had the slightly undersized wing skins .... like our
#002 did. Also, order that extra FUS-30 for doubling the orig.,
and about 5 extra ST-28's (the thicker ones ...) to replace ST-31's
in door frame, and FUS-70's for all 8 corner wraps....

There have been quite a few changes before #200 ....
I'm sure Mike Jones might have a few more gotchas - he's #007.

Well, I guess I screwed up (AGAIN) since I have the
spring gear. Does anyone know if MAM will accept
returns on these if I exchange them for the bungee
gear? They are still wrapped up since I am no where
near that stage of completion.

Also, How do I know if I have the newer MAM Wheels I
have been reading about on this forum? My kit is
number R661.
Thanks,
Keith

Spring gear vs. Bungee gear

Posted: Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:53 pm
by David L. Tuck
Let me start with some the history here. As for #009 it's been in the hanger
at Patti's since she purchased it back in 1993? it was never started and
since that time some of the parts are missing! we have been able to start
and finish all the control surface's at this time other than the trim tab,
which I have just recieved from MAM, along with the complete landing gear
assembly, wheels and brakes and axels.
As usual MAM has screwed up the order, we ordered the bungee gear and they
sent the spring gear and all the parts. On top of all this MAM sent the
crate to the wrong address! and my parts have been around the USA about
three times since December. So I allmost hate to return them if they will
work? allthought I would like the best for 009,since it has been waiting to
be built since 1993.
I'm hoping for alot of help from all of you out there ? and to this point
you have been a great help to me, as I have never done anything like this
before!
Thanks to all, ahead of time!

1. what is the relationship with my co-owner Bob? Patti W.
2. why should I stay with the bungee gear?
3. as far as the tanks I don't see any plastic tanks?
4. as for the wheels and brakes I may have the newer ones? as we ordered
those too, how do I know what are the newer ones?
Thanks, Dave Tuck co-owner of #009

Old wheel halves are pressed out of aluminum. Mine were anodized gold
with a static load rating way under the Rebel weight. New ones are
machined castings. MAM took mine back on a trade several years ago.

Newer "JDM" wheels are a three piece affair...machined out of billet blocks
for the front/back and an extrusion for the center. 1 1/4" bearings/axles
for the Rebel/Elite and 1 1/2" bearings for the SR/Moose.
