Definitely one of my all time favorite movies Walter. I've seen it for
sale in VHS on-line, but never on DVD. Wish I could find it on DVD.
GREAT movie!!

Do you know the name/location of the lake?

Did any of you guys ever see the movie Mother Lode, with a young Kim
Bassinger and Charles Heston. It was done here in BC. They had a Beaver
flying into a local lake, and the pilot misjudged the landing on glassy
water, and ended upside down in the water. Since it was all caught on
film, they revised the script, too, and used it in the movie. I believe
Transport Canada also used the footage in some of their safety seminars.

Besides the flying, great scenery, and did I mention a young Kim
Bassinger, it was actually a great movie, too. I wouldn't mind seeing it
again, if I could ever find a copy somewhere on VHS or DVD.

Living in Flamingo at that time was a pilot, "Hoot" Gibson, who
had spent

intended to
charter it for tours. Given the state of the roads then - and

"Endless> Summer

On the first day, the Goose took off from the airport. The plan
was to fly
out to Cabo Velas, return along Playa Grande and land in the bay

off on their
adventures.

The camera crew set up on Tamarindo Beach, ready to shoot the

coastline, the big Grumman
twin came roaring down the river from the north, putting on a
show for the
camera. On board were the pilot, "Hoot" Gibson, and local
resident and
California board shaper, the late Mike "Doc" Diffenderfer.

Approaching Tamarindo, the pilot started a right turn to follow the
estuary, but his height was insufficient. Presumably he suddenly

Gibson applied full take-off power to get the aircraft back into
the air,
but it careered from the river onto the beach, where it ground-

came to a stop. The whole incident was filmed, and eventually
became part

fortunately both unhurt. From a nearby beach house, a resident came

at the last minute and tried to duck under it. He caught the
wing tip and
stuffed it into the sand.

By the time I got down to it, there were a lot of people around.
I took
pictures and made a T-shirt from one."

Officials of Minae also attended the site very shortly after the
accident,> and charged the pilot with flying in a protected zone
(Parque Marina las
Baulas). As a result, Gibson's licence, obtained over several
years, was
withdrawn after one brief flight.

"As it happened, the club-bearing resident did quite well out of the
crash." August continues. "The plane suffered damage to a wing and
one
of the
propellers, and parts for a vintage seaplane are not procured at
your> local
NAPA store, so the aircraft had to sit for a year or so while
repairs were
made. During this time the aircraft was parked in the resident's
back> garden, he and his family being paid for caretaker duty

The day after the accident, filming continued with a scene where
supposed> crash passengers August, Wingnut and Pat O'Connor climb
cheerfully from
the
Goose, carrying their boards, and run off to the surf.

I believe it was Lake LovelyWater which is about a 30 minute flight from Vancouver. It's a beautiful spot, but it is one of these small one way in and out alpine lakes, and is at the 4000 foot level. I can't believe they chose such a tricky spot for that filming.

Bruce G. might remember it, too. We flew by it on our way back from Phantom Lake.
We peeked into it at the entrance, and decided against trying to land there. I am a bit of a chicken when it comes to one way landings in small areas like that. Plus the Rebel might have had a struggle getting out, too. But I know the experienced Beaver guys go into it regularly.

Yes, if you ever see it on DVD, I want it.

Thanks, but first I have to get a hold of the VHS version. I have movie
software (Pinnacle Studio) and a DVD burner on my computer, so may be able
to do it myself as well. I am not sure if my capture card is good enough,
though (ATI All in Wonder Radeon).

I am not sure how this ebay bidding works. As soon as I put in my bid @
10.49 US, a higher bid came in at 10.50 US. Then it's asking me to bid 50
cents higher??? I think I may hold off until closer to expiry which is
tomorrow.

Yep that's one thing that really pisses me off with Canada Post. It's
cheaper to send a package to California from Ontario than it is to send it
to the next town!

Where are you located Dale? They also want 10 US for shipping in Canada,
but
it's cheaper to ship to the US for some reason. Maybe Dale could buy it,
and
we'll all pay him for it on DVD???

It's item #6471258298.

OK, thanks Dale. I am going to hold off bidding then. I am not sure what
happens to my previous bid, though. I think I read that if the other bid
cancels, then I still get it. So will wait until tomorrow to see what
happens.

However, one way or the other I would like a copy. I assume a DVD can be
sent in a postal greeting card type envelope, so postage for that can't be
much.

Ebay bidding -- look at the readmes there. Its a little complicated to re-
explain here. The trick tho is to place your max tolerable bid at 10-20
seconds before expiry, then chuckle at beating everyone else, or wondering
why the hell you bought something just cuz you got caught up in the bidding
game! :)

I think I may hold off until closer to expiry which is
tomorrow.
