The Murphy Builders Site

As some of you know I am STUCK over her in Hawaii and
am trying to build a set of wings. I am trying to find
any kind of MIL-SPEC numbers for the aluminum prep and
for the epoxy primer you use on the mating surfaces of
the wing material. I was at the Sherwin-Williams
dealer today and of course since being in Hawaii and
with the military here they have tons of stuff but
mostly for ships. He said if I can get him a MIL-SPEC
number he can cross reference it and get me what I
need. Any help would be appreciated.

Hawaii must be pretty tough this time of year Keith.
I can see how not
wearing insulated boots, overalls, and gloves to
protect yourself when
going out to work on the Rebel could be hazardous ;)

Why mil-spec? Do mil spec's even apply to fabric
covered flaperon
components?

It might be more worthwhile to use a proven system
from PolyFiber or
Randolph or to use whatever your trusted
professional aircraft paint
shop uses regardless of mil-spec or not. IMO
mil-spec merely guarantees
a minimum standard even though there may be better
items available...
Would anyone seek out a mil-spec product if
repainting an aluminum road
vehicle?? Anyway none of my bottles and cans seem to
have a mil-spec
number on them.

Yes, it sucks to be here in sunny Hawaii. I'm a
country boy from nortern Minnesota so I know what you
mean about the boots and all. Don't miss it this time
of year either.:) Got a good laugh out of that one.

The reason I am looking for Mil-spec is I'm trying to
find someting of aircraft quality over here. I have
talked to a couple of the paint suppliers and that is
the easiest way to find something close to the
Polyfiber stuff I was using. They look at me funny
when I tell them I am building an airplane. I am
already done with the flapperons and only brought the
basic wing structure over here to build.

Trying to get the Polyfiber stuff shipped here is VERY
expensive. One place qouted $100 just for the
Hazardous fee plus the regular shipping and cost of
the Quart of EP 420. So I'm just trying to find
something comprable over here without ordering
something from the mainland.
