Where do you guys typically shop for avionics for your Rebels?

Also, I would like to put a vacuum pump on my O-320 and would be interested
in hearing where to get one? Should I go right to Lycoming?

First off have you got the drive gear in the case to run the vaccum pump?
Many O-320's don't. Some don't even have the opening in the back case. Next
you need the adapter block/shaft/gear to go from said drive gear to the
vacuum pump shaft. As for buying a pump itself. Any parts supplier can sell
you a Rapco or similar vacuum pump

I just bought all my stuff from Aircraft Spruce. Only problem I have had so
far was the Mitchell Tach. Placed it in the dash and four days later the
glass was cracked across the face from the two lower screws. Can't believe
I caused this from over tightening 6-32 screws. Will see what AS&S has to
say when I return it.

Steve: It is funny that happen to you, only because I had the exact same
scenario with the Mitchell tach I had bought for Rebel 652. I purchased mine
through Aircraft Spruce also, but being Canadian and having paid an arm and
a leg for brokerage fees and shipping, I did not want to go through the
hassle of returning it. I carefully disassembled it and had a local glass
Co. cut me a new face ( from tempered glass) for the great expense of $5.00
with a one day turn around time. I would suggest you do the same as they
would probably indicate it was your fault anyway. LOL Bob J - rebels

How much trouble was it to seperate the front layering of the plastic? The
only thing that really would piss me off is if I had any problems with the
tach itself under warranty. I haven't turned my engine over yet! Thanks
Robert and Murray for your responses.

I had a mitchell that the hour meter seized and broke the gear off at 3.9
hrs. Sounds like we should start buying the offshore stuff and forget the
name brands!

Most Interesting - I installed a Mitchell Tachometer
in a Cessna 150 in mid November, and about a week
later the glass broke. We ordered a Mitchell
replacement glass and replaced it today. On the
first flight it broke again!

How long ago did you purchase yours, and what did
Aircraft Spruce have to say?

From the info on the list, I managed to catch my tach on the shelf before it
was mailed. All of the other instruments I had were sealed and unable to
remove the face and figured the tach was the same. I was very glad to see
the 8 small screws and removeable face. Didn't call AS&S on the advise of
replacing the glass myself will no doubt be a hell of alot cheaper than
returning the tach and having it mailed back again. $5.00 at Speedy auto
glass and having the tempered glass used but I will be sending Mitchell an
E-mail very soon. AS&S can't really do much other than replace the item. I
bought the tach in November also.
