Rebel Horizontal Stab

Hello
I'm building a rebel kit #009, in building the horizontal-stab, the leading
edge skins came pre drilled and the way the instructions sound, they make it
sound like they are not ? There is only one way that they can go? they have
to go where the holes are?
So in installing them I would just line up the holes and drill from there?
just like in other building such as the rudder and the elevators.
I really don't want to proceed without some advise.

Hopefully one of the Rebel guys will answer Dave. It seems you would have a
pretty old manual with a serial number of 009. I would think it would be
just like your rudder and elevator. On the Moose there was really only one
way it could go. The skin was pre punched and the stab ribs had some pre
punched alignment holes that a few of them matched up with, if I remember
correctly.

i beat you, i am doing kit number 007, almost done

as for the stab from my bad memory i had holes in leading edge skins and top
and bottom skins, I think you must
match holes on leading edge skins with holes on top & bottom skins but I
think you need to put top and bottom skins on first cleco in place, as I
recall the only really important thing to keep in mind is have extra
material on each end of the leading edge skins so you can trim as required
when mounting tips and mount to fuselage, so center the leading edge skin in
the top and bottom skin

Hi Dave

I can't help you either as mine were drilled already when I purchased
them from the first owner. The electronic manual seems to show the
punched holes only in the top and bottom skin as you say. I don't see a
problem with having the holes punched in the leading edge as long as
they are not also punched in the top and bottom skins along the leading
edge spar. Even that would be OK if they aligned perfectly I suppose.

It looks like the intent was to slide the leading edge under the skins
and drill #40 through the punched hole into the leading edge skin and
the spar. Then move the leading edge to be on top for drilling to #30
and for rivetting. In Canada only rivet one skin before your pre-close
inspection of course.

This brings another question to mind. When placing the leading edge skins
into place I have noticed that they apear to be more to the inside or the
root of the stab looks like about 1.5" and the tip end about 1/2" or so. You
talk about triming the leading edge at alater time, but how much need to
over hang?
This has been a great help to me. Here I thought that #009 was a late model,
mine has been in storage and has never been started un til August of 05.

the tip edge needs the least amount, it will be trimmed based upon the end
of the stab, flush with the end channel
the other end I trimmed to match the fuselage at that point, because of this
I only trimmed mine years after making the stab just as I was mounting the
stabs on the plane, if trim careful you can get really nice fit to the
fuselage and not have to use a fairing on front edge, my fairing are only on
top and bottom of stab, not the leading edge

will try to send pics if I can get them

since mine is same vintage as yours feel free to ask stuff, there are some
changes you should make as you go along to upgrade the kit, have you made
engine choice yet ??
