Rebel Float spin test? Spin religion/off topic

I didn't think most floatplanes were even guaranteed to stay
structurally intact during a spin, let alone being guaranteed to
recover. I've always suspected that anyone who gets into an
"accidental" spin is not likely to be sharp enough to recover and also
have the altitude to do it.
Ken, your last sentence above is what I learned from spin training. Recovery
technique is beside the point if one accidentally spins at the most likely
time, e.g. turning too slow and/or heavy in the pattern. Spin training
taught me to be very conservative about bank and speed margins in the
pattern, as a spin entry would be all she wrote, in almost any plane.

I took only a little spin training in a Champ with instructor once, then
played with them some in my ultralight. The ultralight experience got my
attention quite a bit more because of it's different entry behavior -- and
maybe also because no instructor there to share the experience. :) In the
first 1/4 turn the dropping wing combines with a pitch over that puts the
plane slightly more than 90 degrees pitch down -- lots of dirt is the
view. :) And then by the time I'm straightening out it is already getting
toward Vne -- all this when I enter on purpose! The Champ seemed mild by
comparison, but I'd want no part of any of it below 2k AGL.
Keep thine airspeed,
-Ben
