Sheeesssssh!
I had no idea that kind of hazard was lurking on my bench!
Thanks Wayne, Fred, Scott, Bob and Ken for the feedback.
I have a belt sander that will now become the grinder of choice but I have
no idea if the
belt is aluminum oxide--will have to figure that out. That would eliminate
the hazard when grinding an aluminum fitting on it right Bob?
Whats the deal on the 3M unitized wheel Ken?
I would welcome your comments on any other creepy (and little known) hazards
associated with the build
Thanks again gentlemen
Brian

Yes if you mix enough iron/steel dust with alum dust you can apparently
create an explosion. I've read about it...never seen it personally in all
the time I've been "bad" as I still have my eyebrows (well I did before I
tried to light that oil stove up at the lake!!!). I rarely grind much on
the
bench grinder. I use the belt sander all the time though (of course using
alum oxide paper...before someone makes not of that!)

Was dressing an aluminum part on my high speed grinder when a neighbour
walked in to check out my build progress. When he saw what I was doing he
went "Whoa!" "Grinding aluminum on a grinder is a real fire hazard" he
said.
