Can I do my own annuals

John / Ted,
Ted, as the Aussies say, "good on them". However, with all the "builders assist" operations that have grown up the FAA is looking more closely. In fact, last year they made it a requirement to have photos to document work. I just would not want to get in a bind having spent considerable money for a partly built kit that the DAR or FAA would not certificate.

The 51% certification does make things easier by virtue of the manufacturer getting confirmation that the kit as shipped can be built to comply with the 51%rule. You still need a log and pictures to demonstrate that you built the 51%. It's OK to build with help but not paid help. I may be more conservative than some but would not want to get stuck with a winged paper weight. As stated in another communication, assembled parts could be used but you still need to do 51% of the tasks.

The FAA acts in strange ways - witness the "no retract" retractable gear the LSA waterplanes are stuck with. So... I don't want to open a thread on what the FAA may or may not do.
