Moose tail: further update on testing

I towed the plane across rough ground and watched the stinger / tail
today. The new stinger design is a HUGE improvement over the old round,
hollow, one. This new stinger flexes significantly more than the
previous design and clearly absorbes a substantial load which the
bulkheads themselves had to previously bear the brunt of.

After nearly 20 landings on rough turf, everything appears as solid as
when first installed. At this stage I'd have to say that the
improvements in component thickness coupled with the new stinger and
additional horizontal stiffeners are a winner on the Moose. When the
new stinger design becomes available from Murphy Aircraft, I highly
encourage every Moose / Super Rebel owner to consider an upgrade
(assuming one does a significant portion of their flying on wheels that
is).

Thanks Ted !

Appreciate the update - glad everything is working better !!

This is Experimental aviation <working> ! I'm sure Darryl gave
the original design his best shot, and I know all the builders are
doing whatever they think is best to have the best airplane for their
needs ... and, thanks to patience, positive feedback, and co-operation,
now everybody wins, and there's an improved design out there !! :-)

Thanks for putting in the effort to give it a fair try !
Please keep us posted as the hours and landings accumulate ....

Moose tail: further update on testing

Ted:

We have ordered the "BEEF UP" group of parts for our moose from MAM. Nancy says that the new stinger (LG-066) and the (STEEL) FUS-438 has not been approved yet for production.
We can wait for the stinger for a while, but will need the 438 to install with the new parts.
Is the new steel 438 a big improvement from the old one? ? ?
Do you think that the old 438 will last with the new stinger? ? ?
We will be working full time on our moose this month and wanted to get it ALL put together.

Nancy has said there is a lot of interest in these parts, so if anyone is thinking of doing this retrofit they better get their ordres in NOW as I think MAM will be running out of parts soon.
The more orders MAM gets for this group of parts the sooner they will start making the new stingers.

Glad to hear that the beef up looks like it will help in the long run as a lot of our flying will be into onimproved landing sites. Farm fields and dirt roads.

Thanks for you insite and installing these MODS to help prove them out.
