Ryan, Most are using Warp Drive Props for their light weight (less than 10
lbs) and the ability to repitch for free. There have been some problems of
"pulse" cracks apparently, when used on 160 HP engines. No reports of
problems on 150HP ones. If you want to be (almost) sure of problem free
propellor usage, you could do what I did and buy a brand new "certified for
application" one from Sensenich. This does have it's problems though: almost
$3000cdn., costs about $250 if you ever need/want to get it re-pitched at a
propellor shop, it weighs 40lbs and moves c of g forward conciderably and
they generally take almost 3 months to get from the factory, so plan ahead!
My main reason to stay at 150HP(even had a O-320B derated from 160HP) is
fuel availablilty when float flying! Wayne

-Can anyone expand on this. What do you mean by "eating" props? Stress
cracks? Are these props wood in nature or metal? The canard folks always
use wood due to these same sort of issues. What kind of props are people
using on O-320's?
Thanks

FWIW - the 160 HP version of the O-320 is NOT a preferred choice -
you
need 100 LL, no car gas, and there are harmonic problems that can eat props
!!
This was discussed at the builders meeting - one solution is an 8 lb. (!)
torsional vibration damper that bolts onto the prop flange before the prop.
One builder now has about 80 hours on this setup - he ate 3 props in under
15 hours before ! ( my recollection's not good - Your Mileage May Vary !)
:-)
Also, be very careful of which model number you get - some will NOT fit
standard mounts or cowlings !
