Brake pedal geometry

I assembled the brake pedals and master cylinders today on the workbench and it appears that, given the lenth of all the parts, the break pedal will angle back (toward the pilot) as the rudder is pushed in. The only way to prevent this is to increase the master cylinder overall length so that the parts form a parallelogram. What are others doing?

Some of us moved the bottom cylinder attach point from the rudder pedal
bar to the floor. That stops the pedal from tilting forward as the
rudder is applied. MAM may sell a couple of brackets to do that if you
don't want to make your own. Lots of discussion is probably still in
archives. There are a few reports of limited braking (pedal hits the
firewall) and ground loops from the normal installation.

Be sure to mount the pedal assembly far enough off the firewall to allow full pedal travel plus full braking action. We found that the floor / motor mount doubler as sized by MAM would not allow that. By using the floor mounted brackets as stated by Ken they can be located so that an almost parallelogram can be achieved. This, in turn, keeps the brake pedals nearly in line with the rudder pedals.

Thanks Ken! I have the drawings for the brackets to attach the MC to the
floor and that is what I mocked up. My problem is that the pedal tips
*back* as rudder is applied. I will probably put nutplates in the floor so
I can change things around later.

I have a Helio Courier currently and one of the few things that I don't like
about it is the rudder/brake geometry. Basically I can only keep off the
brakes if I have shoes with very soft soles. I can do it but it is not
optimum (for me) and I want to do better on the Moose.

Moving the floor attach point aft a bit will reduce that. I know that I
overbuild but that floor attach point has to take several hundred pounds
so make it solid. It is not unusual to see CH300 zeniths with a bent
floor below the bracket.
