Aeronca Leaf Spring (was Composite Tailwheel spring)

I only had 50 hours on wheels before I went to floats and mostly
pavement. But I know 2 other Rebels that used the same tail
spring. One had over 500 hours (Julius) with no problems before
he went to floats. He used to fly it out of Fort Langley which
has a fairly rough grass strip.

All,

I was curious about the Aeronca tailwheel leafspring
mentioned by Walter and
wondered how the 7AC & 11AC models compared with the
Rebel in regard to gross
weight (1650#). I Googled these two models and came up
with 1250# and 1350#
respectively.

If these gross weights are correct (or in the
ballpark), does anyone think
this tailspring might be too light for the 1650# Rebel?

The rebel is lighter on the tail than a Champ or Cub...don't see the spring
being an issue and as matter of fact I think I have one here that I got with
an AULA rebel. Believe they are only 1 1/2" wide (not 1 3/4) so will need
some serious shimming.
