Gooday Folks;

Trying to decide what float to purchase for rebel with 160 HP.Can buy a
set off 2100 wipair clones.Whould they be a good match.Has anyone every
installed same on rebel.Without a another rebel to get measurements from
i guess it would be very difficult to do the first setup.

Guess you're talking a set of Eddie floats! Shouldn't
be that difficult to
mount. Find the c o g of the floats by rolling a metal
tube under the float
step keels. Line the float c of g up with the empty
aircraft c of g and
start making struts. What we are finding for an
ultimate throat angle on the
Rebels is between 2.7 and 3.5 degrees. This is float
top level, cabin bottom
2.7 to 3.5 nose up. Mine is at 3.0 degrees and
lands/take offs ever so
nicely with a mere 8 second run into a breeze at
1700lbs! with 150 HP.

When you get there Alvin I am sure many will be
willing to take measurements
and send you pictures so your installation is a success.

Hmmm, 8 seconds, that's pretty good, Wayne, and assume you still
have that puny tooth pick Warp Drive prop, too. I think I may
have to change mine to 3 degrees as well. I plan to take my
floats off some time this winter for a full maintenance check,
and might even paint them before reinstalling.

Counting "thousand and one...thousand and two...etc". so maybe a second or
two longer...but no more. Off the grass in no wind @1790lbs takes about

to 600 feet max....so pavement in the 450 to 500 foot category.

Paint = Weight ! and a harder to clean scum line.

If you have a set of holes left on the back struts, or two, drop it down

see what it does. I found it made VERY little difference on the
X-cable/turnbuckles length when I did Howard's so you shouldn't need to

anything new.

I've got some solid salt water lines on the floats now, so assume
paint would prevent that. Besides, I need to pretty it up a bit,
if I'm coming out see you guys next summer. I've got some
hydraulic leaks coming from the back gear somewhere, so will have
to check that out real good. Can't tell where its coming from
with the floats on, but it is making a mess of my paved hangar
floor. And maybe I'll try seal off those grommets on my front
gear wells. Getting tired of having to pump out my 3rd from the
front compartments every time I'm in rough water.

Harrison Lake is only 40 ft ASL. But yes, high alpine lakes are a
whole different story.
