Fuel oil line fittings

Post by Doug Martin » Fri Feb 17, 2012 5:27 pm

I highly recomend that you never use teflon tape on your aircraft
espceialy never use it on instrument plumbing. I use "Fuel lube" which can
be bought in the US from any of the aircraft suppliers (Aircraft Spruce,
Aviall, Sacramento Sky Ranch) Use it sparingly and start it 2 threads down
from the end. Flared fittings do not need a sealant.

Firewall forward Fuel & Oil fittings and lines should be steel to preclude
cracks froming. However fierwall to the engine needs to be flexable
aircraft hose (mil-spec 6000) or maybe stainless steel braided fuel hoses
from racing cars.

Always check the hoses for the type of fuel you will be useing, to make
sure that they are compatible and the fuel will not attack the material.

I also recomend that you do not use copper lines (oil pressure indicator)
as copper has a tendency to work harden and break.

If useing US aircraft fittings keep in mind that they are flared to 37
degrees weheras automotive is 45 degrees, do not mix as you will have a
leak. Sorry I don't know about metric.

I've used Loctite 592 or Loctite 567 it's a Teflon type paste in a tube.
Recomended for fuel lines. Use it VERY SPARINGLY. I've always ben told not to
use Teflon tape on fuel lines. P.S.&L.S.

You are very right here! Never use teflon tape on an aircraft. Anywhere!
Just supposed a small piece tears off at each fitting and flows down stream
and covers that little screen at the carb inlet. Do you know the glide ratio
of your Rebel?????
