Free flow fuel pump

Hi Mike, a lot of Moose use the facet - 48053 12V 45GPM 6.5 to 7.5 PSI and
we only use it for priming during start so it free flows as do a lot of the
facet. Probably find it cheaper but here it is at ASS.

Subject: Free flow fuel pump
I just got a Holley electric fuel pump from Summit Racing for my V8
installation. I tried to blow through it to get an idea of whether it would
flow fuel when it's not running. I would say, NO, it will not flow without
running. I could only get a small amount of air through it. Does anybody
know of an electric fuel pump that does not significantly restrict flow when
it's not running? If not, I will have to go back to my original idea of not
having a fuel pump at all. Gravity flow only. I'm not going to risk a
failed pump killing my engine. The two Cherokees I have owned had auxiliary
fuel pumps that you chose to run, usually during takeoffs and landings, and
fuel flowed when it wasn't running. But those pumps cost $750!!! Surely,
there's a less expensive option. Tomorrow I am going to start rigging a 5
gallon jerry can to feed fuel to my carb through my installed fuel system.
The fuselage is in a level attitude in my shop. I have a fuel pressure
gauge installed at the carb. I'll be interested to see how much pressure I
get with 5 gallons of fuel. If it's enough, I'll probably just go without a
fuel pump at all.
In case anyone is interested, I have my complete cooling system in place. I
am quite impressed with the CoolFlex copper radiator "hoses". And I plumbed
in a 120VAC coolant heater for winter operation in Fairbanks, Alaska. My
exhaust is about two days from completion. No mufflers. Should be
impressive sounding. Hope it's not too loud. Or maybe not.
