Rebel Modification Table

In going back and researching the modifications that can be made to the
Rebel, I started getting confused pretty quickly. So, I gathered up all the
mods I could find and put them in a table. The mods are numbered and not
quite ready for prime time.

If the experienced builders on the site would look at the table and make
suggestions for the description and priority, I will be happy to make the
changes.

The table is in Excel, but can be read by a variety of SS readers. If this
does not work, I can make a .PDF out of it, or a word processor doc too.

You can email suggestions to be directly if you like. Thanks Bob P for
adding to the table and making suggestions.

The table is in the Rebel-Modifications file area.

Your table looks great,

It will be nice if some of the experienced builders could add comments to
some
of the mods.

Looks like a pretty comprehensive list.

Off the cuff comments for the part numbers that I still recall and
another suggestion:

1. Rear lower corner wraps are in tension in a tail first landing and I
don't remember any justification for upsizing those although it can't
hurt? For the upper rear wraps I added a length of stringer material
from the forward outboard corner (tied to the butterfly doubler) along
the top of the wrap to the top rear inboard corner rather than replacing
the 0.020 wraps.

8. and 9. I think it is one or the other of these two mods usually.

14. don't know what this is.

16. I used 5/8 channels on the top of the floor.

17. I believe the manual now shows dual channels to pick up both sides
of the seat rails.

18. extra floor channels in the baggage area may be more important than
a thicker floor.

35. Yes that is Gord Mohr's brass bushing mod

41 ? Some folks have also added a brass bushing for the lower rudder
pivot. It seems that the rudder cable pressure sometimes accelerates
wear there.

42 ? moving the firewall... ;)

Another comes to mind:
Not high priority but Wayne suggested doublers around the two most
forward skylights that are under the top of the windshield. There is
mention of a couple with cracks in the archives.

Glad someone has a memory left! Good points Ken and nicer to do know before
that windshield is installed for good, or the airplane painted.

I also noted how nice the rear most skylights are again today. I always
loved them on wheels as you can see back if anyone is following you while
taxing. Had a very busy channel to take off in the other day and realized
how nice you can look down the lake out the rear skylights before turning
into the wind for take off.

I had a look at the pics and I think first two already mentioned:

Double staggered rivets up the door post...don't care if you're on
wheels/skis or floats!
Firewall plates..bought or mfg'd on your own..expecially with that dynafocal
mount!
WHY - Fuel pumps on that O-320??? It has a carb..no. If so get rid of the
complexity and expense of those pumps.
WHY - priming only 3 cylinders...leaving the one rear one for vacuum gauge??

Other than that...looks very well done (from 1500 miles away)

Cheers,
Wayne

Yet another one might be to put that crease in the fuselage side panel
that goes behind the door so that it matches the crease ahead of and
behind it. Well that might be a builder's tip instead of a mod....

I didn't see mention of the brass bushing for the lower rudder pivot??

Forward skylight doublers will likely get in next update as well??

I believe item 39 is also a factory S/B? Perhaps S/B's should be
annotated as such and grouped together.

Item 7 I think is the rudder post re-inforcement SB. "Tail spar" might
be misleading.

item 9 is a good idea if you don't do item 8. Might be worth mentioning
that 0.040 is an upgrade from the 0.020 doubler in the S/B. Perhaps
0.040 is now supplied with kits??

item 40 duplicates 22 which is also item 1 methinks

Rebel Modification Table

Jim

We discussed your table a bit today and everyone enthusiastically
supported your efforts. (The turnout was great with I think 5 Rebel
Flyins - thanks again Bob and Anna) We thought it would help to try and
identify the parts for you since you don't have a manual, and for the
rest of us that have forgotten the part numbers. The only one I didn't
find in my manual is Fus33 but I think that is the interior corner wraps
from the sidewalls to the floor. It was also suggested that photos would
help and I may be able to reference some photos later on in the year if
you wish. In the meantime I have uploaded a suggested revision 3 (2
failed and is a zero length file) with some descriptions and also
several more changes. I put in question marks in a number of places
where more comments or opinions from others are needed or where I was
not certain what the issue was. I am not the expert that Wayne or Bobp
is so I'm sure more corrections will come. I'm just trying to be helpful
as I've been hanging around here for awhile now and this list has been
very helpful to me ;) For the most part I did not add the items that
you have planned to include in your next revision and I tried not to let
my personal opinion show too much ;) Please utilize or discard as much
of this as you wish in your next revision and continue to modify the
table as you wish. Many of the things in the table address issues that
have only appeared on high time or rough usage airframes of course.

Another suggestion was to combine the table with the other list of mods
that was posted recently by someone else here. I apologize but I'm
terrible with names and I've run out of time to find that post at the
moment. Someone will probably remind us and perhaps later in the week I
will get a chance to help with that.

It was also apparent that the Elite builders would appreciate an
annotation of some kind if any of the mods apply to them. I know most
are not applicable but they will have to mention it to you if any are.

thanks
Ken 119R

PS good luck with your purchase

Hi Jim !

We tried ! Nobody could recall what the parts were, just from the
part numbers .... :-)

Ken has offered to do some research and send you some more info -
not sure about pictures - that, we'll have to leave to individual builders
to submit, once we know what to shoot. :-)

You'll have a lot of fun with the Rebel ! I think Greentree
used to finance airplanes ...

I've thrown together a web page you might want to use for this effort Jim
(and everyone else too). I used the same software that my construction log
is using. It's very nice when the content needs to be dynamic, and should
allow much more flexibility and participation than the current archive site
does, while maintain focus on Service Bulletins and builder modifications.
Primarily it will allow you to upload newer versions of the same file, it
will keep the discussions together by topic, and allows photo attachments
right in the discussion. Check it out and let me know what you think...
it's very easy to add or change the configuration if there are changes
anyone thinks would help.

Rebel Modification Table

You know that I'm a heavy user of Micro$oft's products Bob, primarily
because it's what I do for a living, and I'm very comfortable with it. But
if I didn't have over 23,000 messages in the database on the archive site,
I'd seriously consider dumping Wildcat and Windows 2000 Server and going to
a Linux server running Apache. I really like a lot of the open source
software available, and the performance it fabulous, but I've got this huge
legacy dog humping my leg that requires a MS server platform. I get really
frustrated at the poor performance of the Wildcat database compared to the
open source MySQL I'm using behind the PHP sites. Oh well, I couldn't get
away from the MS server entirely since I also have it configured as a domain
server for the home network... and even if I'm ready to use something else,
nobody else in the family is. And being a gaming nut, I still need my XP
workstation!

Anyway, glad you like it... I thought it would serve this need well.
