Brampton meeting

Bob and Anna

Just wanted to extend my appreciation for another excellant builder's meeting
yesterday. Wingtips (Dave Fife) , STOL kit (Angus McKenzie), good discussion,
numerous tips, questions answered.... A good meeting all around.

Some of us made note of which 3 rivets to dimple on each leading edge rib to
facilitate installation of the STOL cuff. (The first two behind the leading edge
spar on the top of the wing, and the first rivet aft of the forward J stringer
on the bottom of the wing.)

Also thank you Brian for letting us inspect your superbly built aircraft.

I still haven't found those suitable flush cargo tie downs but I will mention it
if I find them.

Ken

Hello Bob,

I had planned to attend yesterdays meeting by flying down in the
reconstructed Rebel (ex R.P. plane that was flipped on floats) or my
personal one. (both are now flying again with their 150hp lyco's!) I had my
photo albums all ready to go in the hanger, but I'm not too keen on cross
countries in 40KM winds (gusting 55). Also was sleeting with a 300agl
ceiling. Sorry, maybe next time!!! I would have really liked to see Angus'
STOL kit. Is it a cuff or a slot and does it really change anything other
than cruise speed???

For the flush cargo tie downs you should talk to Spae Naur in Kitchener 800-265-8772
or Scarborough 416-291-4101. They have 3 different types listed, one is about $9.00
another is 16.00 and the other looks too big. I would expect they should be as
inexpensive as anyone.

For those that don't know, Spae Naur is an industrial hardware/fastener distributor
with a catalog almost 3" thick.

Brampton meeting

Thanks for the kind words, Ken ! We always enjoy having these 'visits'
from the Rebel Builders - you guys are GREAT !!!

For those of you who couldn't make it to the meeting - we missed you !

And .... yes, you did "miss something" !! A lot of really solid, useful
knowledge was passed around at the meeting, and there was another draw for
a Rebel T-shirt, and a free cell. phone (as well as the usual food stuff !)

Many thanks to Brian Cross, Ron Barber, Carmon Titus, Angus McKenzie,
Curt Martin, Dave Fife, and ALL the others who gave us the benefit of their
experiences & suggestions for ways to improve the Rebel. We look forward
to more first-hand reports on how the Rebel flies with the Fife wing tips,
and the McKenzie STOL kit ....

Yes - Curt & Dave FLEW in from Michigan ! They DID cheat, and used the
spam-can, instead of the Rebel - figured it wouldn't be much of a loss if
the wind got IT !! :-)

As someone said - "Notice that we now spend a fair bit of time
talking about FLYING the Rebels - almost as much as BUILDING - and this
is a GOOD SIGN !! Many more Rebels are getting finished, and folks are
enjoying them !!!"

Dave brought in a set of his Hoerner wing tips & tail tips, and Angus
brought a section of the cuff material for his STOL kit, and left us a
copy of the installation manual, as well. This was very handy for those
thinking about installing his cuff & wing fences later - they now know
WHICH rivets to countersink while building the wing, so it will be easy
later.

We had a small turnout, but an EXCELLENT meeting - sorry we didn't
get to all of the agenda items, but mark your calendars NOW for the
next meeting - second Sunday in January - Jan. 9th, 2000, at 1 pm.

Hope we see you there !!!

Congratulations on completing yet ANOTHER Rebel !! We were almost
SURE you'd make it for the meeting - next time .....

Always better to be safe - plan on DRIVING in January !! :-)

We had the opportunity to see Angus do some demo flying at the last
meeting. His STOL kit does AWESOME things for the low speed performance
of the Rebel, as well as helping the cruise & handling at forward CofG's. !
It is a cuff, with structural foam ribs, and wing fences - just like the
Baron STOL kit for the Beaver. First reports from Jack Weibe say it goes
on in one day, and REALLY helps slow approaches into small lakes !

We're seeing more and more creative improvements for what is already
" THE best float plane in the world !! ".

Looks like good weather tommorrow. If any builders in the london area want
a ride to the builders meeting in brampton I have an empty seat. I will be
departing Centralia
11:45-12:00. Probably leaving Brampton around 3-4:00 I can't stay for the
pizza party. Give me a call if you want a ride

Hey Drew,

It was nice to see you and your "sparkling" Rebel at the meeting. How
on earth do you get/keep it so shined up!?!?

I'd love to take you up on the "ride" offer, but a bit late for this
time. Maybe another time? Do you ever fly up Windsor way? Be nice
for our group to have a "field trip" to see it.

Take care.

Hey Brian

Lots of rolite pre-polish and polish and tons of elbow grease. If I have
room for a future meeting I'll post it again. I didn't put up anything
earlier because I wasn't going to go unless the weather was good. Our RAA
chapter usually has a fly out weekeend to Pelee island sometime in the
summer thats as close to windsor as I've ever been. I'll let you know if /
when we're going and maybe I can stop off on the way there or back. My
plane could be parked for a while though if I can get my floats completed
in time to use them this summer.

If the forecast holds I'll probably be there with my rebel. I think there's
2or3 rebels based at Brampton. Every meeting that I've attended has had a
few builders that have completed their planes and love nothing better than
talking about them. (except maybe flying)

Hey Harold,

Brampton Airport (CNC 3) Elev 900', N43-45-37 W079-52-30
(N43.759 W78.873)

It is north of Brampton proper, in Caledon, holding the S-E corner of
Cty Rd 9 and McLaughlin Rd. N.

McLaughlin Rd is a long road parallel to #10 Hwy about 1/2 mile
(1.3Km) west. The south end starts at Eglington just east of Mavis,
and the top end is at the Forks of the Credit.
County Rd 9 runs from Caledon Village to Bolton.

If you were at Hwy 10 and Hwy 7, heading north-west on 10, you'd go
10.5Km, turn left (westerly) onto Cty Rd. 9, go the 1.3Km, turn left
again onto McLaughlin , go less than 1Km (don't cross the RR tracks),
turn left into the airport road, go along that road about 1/2Km until
there is a gated gravel road to the left leading to the "back" of a
bunch of blue hangars, follow that into the gravel parking lot and
well past the RAA Canadian HQ and as far northeast as you can get to
park. Walk up the embankment to the hangar alleyways (watch for prop
traffic) , head right (northeast) for 2 hangar rows, turn left again
to the RAA Toronto club house. By that time you should have seen a
gathering of Rebel feathers.

Have fun. Wish I was going.

Brian Lawson,
Windsor, Ontario.

Thanks Drew, I'll probably try to make it out. I somehow lost the
meeting
coordinates and time. Would you mind filling me in?
Thanks,

If the forecast holds I'll probably be there with my rebel. I think
there's
2or3 rebels based at Brampton. Every meeting that I've attended has
had a
few builders that have completed their planes and love nothing better
than
talking about them. (except maybe flying)
