Bob,
I would like you to consider your group stopping by here on the way from
the factory to Oshkosh in 2000. While a "stateside" route might not be
your norm, it is a good route through the rockies following I90. I am
also close to Libby (50 miles or so)and a side trip to the Montana Float
Company might be nice too. There is also the Priest Lake area with a
fly in camping facility if interested.

Our strip is grass and 3400' long with lots of parking. The Sandpoint
Idaho area is one of the most beautiful places in the world in my
estimation and you are all invited to share it on the way by.

I have a full shop facility and my neighbor is an A&P so any maintenance
would be possible while here before the trek over the mountains.

For that matter, if any in the group are going by, please stop. We love
company. Wish I could make one of your meetings, but it's a little far.

Rebel Ramble

Thanks for the invite !! It DOES sound like a great place to visit.
You sure paint a pretty picture of the surroundings - just the kind of
spot WE love to visit !

We had planned to go south into Washington anyway, on our side trip
to "Alaska" - ;-) (The TV show 'Northern Exposure" was filmed in
Roslyn - alias 'Cicely, Alaska' ) :-)

One of the challenges with Rebel Rambles is that they are "Navigation
by Consensus" - this is a lot of fun, but often makes it very hard to
pre-arrange parties and BBQ's en-route !! I lost a lot of hair on the last
trip to the "Wet Coast" (in 1996) - and I think there are still some unhappy
flying clubs that wanted us to visit .....

I've learned that 'less is more' when making arrangements, and now can
relax & enjoy the trip a lot more ! Will try to put Sandpoint on the route
- it's still being revised anyway .... (constantly ! ;-) )

I know there's a lot of interest out there, and I'm trying to prepare
the Ramble route notices in a 'web-suitable' format. When it's ready, I'll
post it here.

We really DO want people who are thinking about coming along to write
and REGISTER EARLY for this one, so we can plan a bit !! They will then
be put on the snail mail list for the Ramble newsletters ...

Current plans are to leave Brampton on July 8th, head out to B.C. for
about the 15th, than back to Oshkosh for about the 23rd or so ... Always
varied by weather, scenery, and personalities ! :-) We fly and camp
along the way, or hit motels, as it suits the pilots, and we'll visit the
Murphy factory in Chilliwack.

Would love to have you at one of our meetings - they keep getting better !
We got Angus to do some demo flying at the last one, with his 'super STOL'
kit - it was so impressive that 2 of the builders ordered them on the spot !!
I think Jack Weibe has already installed his !
Maybe you could trade in some air miles & fly commercial to Toronto ...

Will do our best to try to visit, either going or returning. Maybe
you can join us for the return to Oshkosh !!

That would be GREAT !! We have several folks who will only be able
to fly along for a few days - glad to have the company !

We expect to get to Chilliwack about the 13th or 14th ... but this IS
Rambling ! :-) .... never know what the weather, or the group,
might do :-) !

Maybe, if you have time, you could head up the week before, and catch
the Arlington Fly-in - it's getting pretty big now. I think it runs for
4 or 5 days ... OR - fly along with us to Oshkosh !! :-)

As of when I left the Ramble at Sandpoint Tuesday, They were not sure if they
would continue south of the border or head north after Libby Montana.

REBEL RAMBLE

Posted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:15 pm
by Walter Klatt
I just got back into Langley last night after a
marathon run from Swan River Manitoba, all in one day.
Had to buck head winds for most of the way, but did
have the advantage of gaining 2 hours with the time
zone changes. Left at 8 AM CDT and got in at 8:50 PM
PDT just before sundown. Made stops in Humboldt,
Saskatchewan, Hanna, Alberta, and Golden, BC.

I have to say, I have gained some new respect for my
little Rebel. It sure is nice to be able to climb with
ease to 10,500 to get out of the heat and over
mountains if you have to. It was 35 C (about 95 F)
yesterday when I left Golden after a fuel stop, and did
a straight climb (BobP's advice on how to work the
thermals and ridges sure helped) to that height to
look at the mountain tops as I passed through Rogers
pass. It's also a lot smoother up there. I like to see
a 172 try that.

I joined the group at Arlington and we rambled across
the northern states. Had great weather for most of the
way, other than dodging t-storms on one day. BobP
managed to get hailed on as he crossed through one,
trying to get to our fuel stop destination. I left them
at Thief River Minnesota and headed north into
Manitoba, to visit friends and relatives.

Met some great people along the way, and it was great
to travel with a group, too, especially if you are
inexperienced like myself. This was my first long cross
country.

Special thanks to Dan Montgomery at Lyncrest in
Winnipeg for offering to store my Rebel in his hangar
overnight. They had a big t-storm there that night, and
it was very comforting to know that my plane was safe
and dry. BobP was right. That is a great little place,
practically right in the city, and very nice people.

All in all, a great experience, and will be doing many
more short rambles back here in BC before this summer
is over.

Haven't got through all the emails from the list yet,
but didn't see BobP's name. Trust he made it back to
Ontario safely.

Walter

Hi Walter !

Yes, we got home safely, and quickly, too, with that
tailwind !!

Thanks for joining us on the trip back - we all enjoyed
your company ! Glad your visit and return trip went so well.

WOW !!! You now hold the record for the fastest Rebel
trip from Manitoba to B.C. !! Congratulations !!!! :-)

That must have been one looooong day - but a good one,
by the size of your smile ! Both you and the Rebel can hold your
heads high - Good Show !! :-) I agree completely - there
are VERY few aircraft out there that could match your performance,
especially on amphibs !

We should put you and Tom Inglis together for a Ramble trip -
you both like to "Just GO !!" ;-) :-) Bet you two could
make it right across Canada in 2 days !!!! Tom flies a 912-powered
Rebel, but would likely fly non-stop to keep up !! ;-) :-)

......bobp & Anna

Sorry for the delay in replying, but we had over 800 emails to
wade through !!

I thought I would let you know that the article on the Rebel Ramble last
year is now out in the current issue of Canadian Aviator. (May/June)
I wouldn't have chosen a few of the pictures but there is one good one of
"Ducky" and a group photo of all of us in Grand Rapids Minnesota.

It should be available on a news stand near you.

Cheers
