Hi Steve
Could you comment a bit further?
Was the locking pin repairable on the Matco and was that the only reason
you replaced it.
Obviously you have more confidence in the 3200 but did it handle better
than the Matco?
thanks
Ken

Hi Ken
The pin that broke wasn't repairable. From what I can remember the pin was
in one of the cast bodies and it broke off flush. It was about 3/8" in
diameter and was used for the steering lock. I just sent it back to AS&S. I
believe it handled OK. I've tried the 2000 which was well used before I got
it and it was no good either. My buddy that flew to Oshkosh with me had a
matco on his Christavia but replaced it with the 3200. I had thought that
the Maule tundra would have been a good wheel but someone has dumped on it
already so I don't know. I think the price on mine new (3200) a long time
ago was about 550 US and they're up to 900 now. Take care

Steve
I made the comment about the Maule Tundra T/W. I really liked it, good
price, ground handling, etc. Then, the main housing/casting broke off the tail
spring at about 70TT while landing on a grass strip near home. The departed
tail wheel assy. stayed connected to the airplane by the steering chains and
flogged the rudder. Maule was sympathetic to my call and sent a replacement
housing albeit the wrong one. The whole mis-matched, disassembled ensemble
sits in a cupboard, Can/US customs/duty/brokerage fees made it more hassle
than it was worth to sort it out. Pulled an old Scott, spare from the Pawnee
off the shelf and am still using it .....Angus
