I found the 16878E wire in a catalog for a local store.. With the exchange rate
etc, in worked out to the same price as buying the 22759 wire from A/C Spruce..
But it is still quite expensive..

Can anyone recommend a Canadian source for wire?

The Mil-W-16878E you have is Silver or Nickle
plated as opposed to tinned and rated at 1000 volts versus the 600 volt
rating of 22759/16 and for use in high temperature areas. If you already

Dave,

Current Mil Spec. for general aircraft use is, Unsheilded wire is
MIL-W-22759/16 and Sheilded is MIL-C-27500. These replaced MIL-5086A and
MIL-C-7078. Both are suitable to use, with the latter being what you would
find in all Cessna's, Piper's, etc. The newer "Tefzel" coated wire is easier
to strip however. The older spec wire had PVC in the coatings and was
discontinued due to the Air force not allowing it anymore! Do not use
Automotive style wire(thick unknown insulation covering wire) as the wire is
not tinned and will corrode. The Mil-W-16878E you have is Silver or Nickle
plated as opposed to tinned and rated at 1000 volts versus the 600 volt
rating of 22759/16 and for use in high temperature areas. If you already
have this wire, I don't see any reason not to use it, but I'm sure it costs
alot more than 22759/16 or Surplus 5086A or 7078.Hope that helps,

Not aware of a reasonably priced Canadian source but Wag-Aero lists it by foot
or by 100 foot rolls. They have lots of sizes listed but here's a sample of
their price on a couple of sizes.
100' #22 US$ 8.00
100' #16 US$14.00

Might have a local source for Tefzel wire. What quantity are you looking
for, as these folks are VOLUME distributors ???

I found a listing for the MIL-W-16878E/5 Teflon - 1000V, 200 C and MIL-W-16878E/6
250V, 200C wires at Electrosonic.

They want $CDN 25.01/100ft or $223.50/1000 ft. for the /5 in 24 AWG. (19 x 36) and
17.55 for 100 ft. and $150.00 (red or black) or $259.37 (other colors) for 1000 ft.
for 24 AWG (7 x 32) in the /6 material. If you buy the 24 AWG in 19 x 36 strand you
pay $20.85/100 or 183.00/1000. As Dave Q. says, this wire has silver coated copper
conductors.

/5 is listed in sizes from 24 to 16 AWG and the /6 is listed in 30 to 22 AWG.

The manufacturer of this cable is Belden. Belden makes a dizzying myriad of cable
and may make the 22759 Dave referred to also but it is not listed in my Electrosonic
catalog.

OK after all that, is this a better deal than your other sources?? Electrosonic is
a large electronics industry distributor with branches in Vancouver, Calgary,
Winnipeg, Toronto and Ottawa. You can contact them at 800-567-6642 or 604-273-2911
in Toronto (where are you??).

BTW, they also list MIL-W-16878E/I PVC - 600V, 150 C and MIL-W-76-PCV - 1000V, 80
C which is quoted as flame and ozone resistant and spec'ed for internal wiring of
electrical and electronic eqp't.
