Moose and M14P

Hi Everybody,

I don't have a project going on just yet, but I'm fairly close to
settling on the Moose with the M14P.

However, I have a couple deal-killer questions....

How available is the M14P? I've been to www.gesoco.com and read thru
everything, and some things concern me - like the company that used to
make the carburators now makes furniture or something.

Also, in reference to the M14Ps, the M14P-V26 apparently does not have
the inverted oil system of the M14P? How is that? What do they mean
by "inverted" oil system?

Who makes the M14P engine mounts? Do they come from MAC?

Thanks for your help and keep up the good work with all the pictures!,

Fred

Fred,

You only need the inverted oil system if you plan on flying upside down for
extended periods of time :)

The engine "mount ring" comes with the engine but that is only half of the
engine mount as we know it. Murphy welds legs to the engine mount ring to
make the complete mount. You can buy a completed mount from Murphy and get
a price break if you send them your "ring" that came with your engine. The
Eastern aircraft all bolt right to the ring not welded.
Here is example of a Moose M14 mount, although it is not Murphy but similar
http://www.goflyamoose.com/engine_mount.htm

You could contact the three main suppliers direct and ask them about the
parts availability issue. So far it doesn't seem to be a problem.

You've already been to George's site, www.gesoco.com and he watches the
list so may add some info here.

Go here http://www.m-14p.com/pages/3/index.htm to contact Carl or Jill about
Russian manufacture engines and parts. (Their website is crap but you can
get their contact information)

Shadetree still has some NOS M14Ps which are in perfect condition (all the
dehydration plugs are still blue) but he has nearly doubled his price for
the remaining stock in the past two years.
http://www.shadetreeusa.com/

Here is an article on the availability of Russian manufacturer engines and
pasrts from England.
http://www.russianaeros.com/vedenyevproduct.htm

The above (Richard Goode) has transferred their parts department to
http://www.wlacrussianeng.co.uk/main.asp You see they still have complete
new carburetors for sale

This is a link page from the YAK guys that has a bunch of M14 related stuff
including all the links above but spread throughout.

Hope that helps,

Moose and M14P

Posted: Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:43 am

I have a separate question on the M14P for everyone.

I am very interested in obtaining a Moose kit in a few years, and with an M14
to go with it. I know in many emails, there are recommendations to wait until
the fuselage is complete and the engine is ready to mount, before purchasing
the engine, as aircraft engines don't sit well for long term. Thinking of
this, the other side of the coin is that M14 engines seem to continue to rise,
possibly faster than the fuselage prices. If it takes 3-5 years to build the
fuselage, that could mean a huge price increase, and therefor opportunity
cost, to wait on that purchase for that long.

So, the question is, how long can the M14P engine really sit in a shop without
detremental effect? What can be done to maximize it's storage life prior to
mounting? Any idea (gut feeling) of how much more the engines will increase
in price in the next 5 years?

Separate issue: Montana float states that they will have their 3500 amphib
float KIT!! Available in 2005. Anyone have details? I also got word late
last year from MAC that they are developing a amphib version of their 3500
floats, but no published word yet on that? Anybody know how long it would
take to build those kits (ballpark) and/or what the pricing would probably be?

Moose and M14P

Hi Mark,

We seem to be in the same boat as future/anxious Moosers. Just to add
more info, I called MAC last week or so inquiring about quick-build
kits. The gentleman (can't remember his name) said that they were (at
least?) 14 months away from having any quick-kits.

Decisions decisions!!

Subject: Moose and M14P

Fred

Moose and M14P

Hi Kevin, welcome to the list.

When you say "right at the Murphy plant" do you mean in that same building?
Are you affiliated with MAM then?

You probably haven't searched through the archives but the biggest complaint
about the Moose right now is the tail wheel stinger and its attachment and
the main gear. Hopefully MAM will do some work on both someday.

Moose and M14P

Hi Scott
No I am one of the owners of Gator aviation the people who
built the Yellow and Black Moose which graced the cover of private pilot
magazine in May. I needed to relocate my shop in Feb. of this year, so
knowing how often one needs parts from the factory I figured no better
location than Chilliwack. When I came snooping around. Murphy's told me they
had a twenty five hundred square ft shop space available so I jumped on it.
We are finishing our first Moose on wheels as we speak. I have not read the
archives but I can for see problems already. We ended doubling up all four
corners I will read up on it now. We are still working through the learning
cure our self's. So far we have one on straight floats The seconds is going
on Montana which we have just received. So wheels are new challenge.
